Minneapolis cop charged with armed robbery of Apple Valley bank.

A Minneapolis police officer has been charged in federal court in the armed robbery of an Apple Valley bank, and police say he is likely the masked gunman in at least four other robberies across the southern suburbs.

The officer, a member of the police department's highly trained SWAT team, is suspected of carrying out the armed bank, store and street robberies in a ski mask shortly after working his overnight police shift.

Local law enforcement officials said the charges against Timothy E. Carson, 28, of Rosemount, cast a shadow on a profession that works hard to protect citizens.

"This is a very, very shocking case," Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan said. "It does tarnish the badge."

1. I'll bet what's really so "shocking" for Dolan is
is that Apple Valley is actually got the "nerve" to charge this cop publicly, in these parts thats breaking the code.

The bottom line with police work is ethics and trust and respect. He blew every one of them," said Lt. John Delmonico, president of the Minneapolis Police Federation, of which Carson is a member. "Good luck to him in jail."

I suppose it's typical for cops to assume an arrest makes you guilty; none of that "innocent until proven.."

I did hear a mention on WCCO's (TV) news that he has a seriously ill child and some big medical bills, not that that excuses him, it's just interesting given the current debate. All the link in the OP says is that he was given a public defender because of big debts.

It's too bad Michael Moore didn't have the story to include in "Sicko".
