Huge Shake-up at KSTP AM-1500 Today!
KSTP AM-1500 Goes Sports Talk

Remember AM1500? Pretty soon, you aren't going to recognize it. Hubbard Broadcasting announced today that they were aligning with ESPN and that AM1500 was going to be "1500 ESPN Twin Cities" soon. To that end, the daytime programming shifts on Monday, 2/15/10, to a new schedule. Joe and Patrick will still be around, but the subject's going to be sports, sports, and more sports. Over a period of time, the schedule will continue to change, bringing content (and shows) from ESPN radio.

Who's getting the ax over at Hubbardland? Well, Bob Berglund, Jason McGovern, Angie Ludwig, John Burns, Jay Kolls, and Al Malmberg. No word on Kelly We'ub, but his time slot's going away, so I'm guessing he's out, too. Overnights? It's ESPN's Jason Smith. Who's gonna listen? Who the hell knows. It won't be me, though. The Twins stay, of course.

The local talk show format is dead, folks. Long live Sports Talk, eh? Feh! I'm already retuning the radios in my house and car. See ya somewhere on the dial!

1. Between my iPhone and Sirius,
I never even listen to broadcast radio anymore. Once REV105 went off the air, what, a decade ago? - the Twin Cities airwaves have been a desert.

2. I keep a radio on in the background. Mostly it's been AM1500.
Hourly news blivets, etc. I'll be changing the dial now. I don't follow sports.

3. I still tune to WCCO when I want Twins games
I still do not realize that KSTP has it. I have my radio set on 91.1 MPR News most of the time and 93X the other times.

12. Same here, WCCO will probably always be the home of the Twins to me.
Then I have to just go through the dial til I hit a station that has it on.

4. I'll put in a plug for our true public radio stations
KFAI (90.3 FM, great jazz) and KBEM (88.5 FM, great everything)

5. My favorite talk radio is 950am ... 2nd is with music KFAI 90.3 fm
I find out a lot more of what is going on Nationally, Locally, and Worldly than with MPR or WCC0.

6. Guess I'm old school..
.. AM950 is going most days for me. Keeps me updated on the real world without the rightie slant of the MSM.

7. KFAI, JAZZ88, and The Current - my top (only) three in the car

In that order.

Clear Channel and commercial radio can kiss my ass.

8. But . . . what about the KQ Morning Show?
Heehee! Bunch of ignorant f***s.
Between them and the two full-time wingnut stations, this market is saturated.

9. 1280 "The Patriot" is Salem Communications
KTLK is Clear Channel. Salem has a long history of right wing and fundie support. Between WWTC and KTLK you are correct, the radio market is more than saturated.

11. I have KQ on my clock radio
because it never takes one of the idiots on that show long to say something that annoys me so much I have to get out of bed to turn off the radio. And once I'm up, I might as well stay up.

Otherwise AM950,MPR or I just search up and down the dial until I find something to listen to.

13. LOL! Me too, and for the same reason.
The instant it comes on, I hit the "off" button. And even that is too much KQ for me. If I had the clock radio tuned to a decent station, I might be tempted to listen for a bit and then I'd have to scramble to get ready for work.

I rarely listen to the radio but when I do, it's Jack FM (104.1). They suck 63% less than other stations.

10. I wake up and work to KSJN classical 99.5 and drive to either the Current or KFAI
I don't like to listen to talk radio most of the time.

I guess I got out of the habit of talk radio because I can't listen to talking while I'm translating.
