I want to update you on the important progress we've made in our efforts to cut through the obstructionism that has gripped the Senate and make it more accountable to the American people.
Yesterday the Senate reached a bipartisan agreement and voted to finally end the practice of the "secret hold," as well as making other changes to make the Senate more transparent and efficient. Eliminating the secret hold means that no longer will a single senator be able to anonymously block a bill or a nomination from coming to the Senate floor for consideration. We can now hold senators accountable for their objections and Senate debates will become more open and transparent.
But our work is not complete. I voted for and would still like to see additional reforms to the filibuster, starting with requiring senators who want to filibuster a bill or a nomination to actually stand on the Senate floor and make their case to the American people.
I will continue to work with my colleagues to push for reasonable reforms like this to end the gamesmanship and the gridlock in the Senate and allow us to do the job we were sent here to do.
Thank you, Amy Klobuchar

1. "Our United States Senator"? |

Who is this "our" she speaks of?
I was out to dinner tonight with two long time DFL activists - both in their late 70s. One, who had been all over me a few years ago because I'm not fond of Amy, announced tonight that if Klobuchar ever takes a stand on something other than motherhood or apple pie, she just may drop dead. Then, to complete the reversal of her past positions she also said that she had been totally wrong about Franken (not fond of him when he ran) and she wishes Amy would take some lessons from him.

I've had the same experience with people who, when I happily raved about Al in 2008 and encouraged them to help his campaign, then looked down at the table or their plate/coffee/shoes or averted their eyes...and now they are telling me what a great job he's doing. And how he takes a stand. I think that's a big thing for many.
I thought the "our" was strange (must be a consultant advising!) too.
