KC DUers: We got a meetup in 2 weeks

I was contacted by a meetup member who is suggesting that we meet at the Westport Flea Market instead of Chili's. The owner of the Flea Market is apparently more Dem friendly than Chili's.

The Flea Market is only a block or two west of Chili's so it's not a major change in location. It also has great burgers.

Let me know what you think. If a majority want to change to the Flea Market, I will change the location on the meetup website.

1. A slight clarification

I'll come out in the open to say it isn't so much that Westport Flea Market is Dem-friendly as that Chili's (like most national chain restaurants) is remarkably Dem-unfriendly.

The parent company of Chili's, Brinker, has a political action committee (PAC) that gave 84% of their contributions to the Thugs during the 2004 election cycle. That includes $2000 to Kit Bond and $1000 to Sam Brownback. Additionally, Brinker's CEO and COO donated to the Bush-Cheney campaign. I found this information at buyblue.org and opensecrets.org.

Westport Flea Market is locally owned. A search of the owner's name at opensecrets.org turned up no political contributions.

There are a bunch of Kansans who have contacted me about coming. Our little group is growing. :)

Yes, I'm the one who wrote to suggest we move to the Flea Market. My bigger point was that we should move from Chili's, and I'd welcome other suggestions, but the Flea Market seemed like a good choice to me.

4. Well I'll give it another week

and if no one objects or has a better idea, I will schedule our meetup at The Flea Market.

5. We're not going to be there

this month, hopefully next month though. I wish you guys could get something worked out for a Saturday gathering, like a picnic in a park or somewhere public.
There are many DU'ers like us who live farther away, and have to leave early, if we could have a gathering scheduled for say noon on a Saturday I'm sure there would be a large turnout.

Personally, I have to wait till school's out to have Saturdays free. But I do think it's worth polling the group about changing to weekends, maybe at least for the summer months. There are so many nice parks in KC. A potluck picnic sounds great.

So sorry you can't make it this month. I am getting a big response over on the KS board. Looks like we will have a much larger gathering this time. Yippee!!
