JEFFERSON CITY — From the start, the constitutional amendment to protect embryonic stem cell research was designed to establish Missouri as a safe haven for exploring stem-cell related treatments.
But the narrow vote margin that carried Amendment 2 on Tuesday appears to have done little to douse efforts to ban certain forms of the controversial research.
Before opponents of the measure had even poured milk over their cereal after election night, some were plotting what could amount to a rematch.
Among the possibilities is ballot measure in 2008 that would seek to negate most, if not all, of the amendment's provisions. By early Wednesday afternoon, that idea had already won over several state legislators.
