Bring the Mandate for Peace to Washington DC - January 27
Bring the Mandate for Peace to Washington DC - January 27

Military Families Speak Out, CodePINK, Veterans For Peace, and Instead of War invite you to travel with us from St. Louis to join a massive march on Washington DC, on Saturday January 27, to call on the new Congress to take immediate action to end the war.

On Election Day the voters delivered a dramatic, unmistakable mandate for peace. Now it's time for action. We will converge from all around the country to send a strong, clear message to Congress and the Bush Administration: The people of this country want the war and occupation in Iraq to end and we want the troops brought home now!

Join activists from throughout Missouri on a bus to Washington DC, leaving St. Louis midnight, late Thursday evening, January 25, and returning to St. Louis midnight, late Sunday evening, January 28. The total cost of travel and lodging will be $195 per person ($100 payable in advance). Some scholarship money may be available in case of hardship, depending on donations.

http://www.insteadofwar.org/mailforms/BusReservation200701.html to register your place on the bus from Missouri to Washington DC.

http://www.insteadofwar.org/site/more.php?id=1619_0_12_0_M to donate so that another person can go, or to make any additional payment toward the trip.

http://www.insteadofwar.org/site/images/uploads/DCBusTripJan27flyer-v5.pdf for a downloadable flyer (PDF, 147 KB, updated Tuesday 12/19), to print, distribute, and spread the word.

To read about the national action, http://unitedforpeace.org/.

Hope to see you there! If anyone can donate so that I could attend, please let me know. I'm dying to be a part of this, but I am a very broke college student. Thanks!

1. Aundria--I will happily sponsor you!
Just tell me how I can get the money to you. Is it permissible to post our e-mail addresses here at DU? I would use my Yahoo address. I'm such a new member that I doubt if I have IM privileges.

3. I just checked with insteadofwar.org
I emailed a contact at insteadofwar in STL to see if you can donate directly to them for my fare. He hasn't gotten back to me yet, but will post info here as soon as he does. There is an area in the payment part where it tells you where to mail a donation for another rider, and there is a link to pay by PayPal or credit card, as well. I just don't know if there's enough time to mail it in, and I don't know if you can designate a payment for a certain person if you use a credit card (or PayPal or whatever). I should have an answer before too long, though, and I will post here to let you know.
I just wanted to thank you again. This is something I have wanted to do since I was very young and saw the Vietnam protests on old news footage. You are helping me achieve a dream, and I will be forever grateful. Thank you so much!

5. Of course I do!
I am talking to one of the guys at insteadofwar, so I'm going to wait and see if he has a specific way he wants to do it, or if the general link will work. He should be getting back to me any minute now, I think. Thanks for your help, hun. I'm gonna see you in DC!!!!!

Thank you so much! You have no idea how happy I am that you can do this for me, too!!! :bounce: I hope you can get there with us so I can give you a great big hug! :pals: Just so we can track it from the insteadofwar end, did you donate using snail mail or internet? It just makes it easier if they can be looking for it so it doesn't get to the wrong rider. :silly: WOW!!! I can't believe I'm going to DC!!! This is such a dream come true for me, and I will be forever grateful for your help. You truly are an angel! O8)

9. I did it with my credit card
over the internet. There was a space where it asked for the name of the person the payment was for and I entered it as you asked. Here is the Receipt ID: 2861-4136-3842-3847 which should help. "Aundria B from Springfield" is listed on the receipt, too. Cheers!

I'm originally from Mo. Kansas City area. My dad was transfered when I was in highschool to Illinois. I always knew Mo. people were the greatest but, you are exceptional.
If more people had your heart it would be such a wonderful world to live in.

so I'll be snapping away. Two 1 gb memory cards, plus a 4 gb storage device, so I think I can bring back a few shots. When are YOU going to make it down to one of these, Larissa?

23. I'm in Anchorage.
We have Ft. Richardson and Elmendorf Air Force Base here. Ft. Wainwright is in Fairbanks, and there are some other bases around, too. There's a real strong military presence in Alaska.

25. I was going to mention the Aleutians
Edited on Sat Jan-13-07 10:37 PM by Blue_In_AK
I was pretty sure there was a base or two out there. Does your husband post on DU? I seem to remember talking with someone else a while ago about being stationed in Shemya. I haven't been out there, but if it's anything like the rest of the state, I'm sure it's spectacular. I simply love this place.

26. No he isn't on DU
But that is amazing because he has only met one other person who was there. It was a small air force base. I don't know if it is even still open.

29. WOW! Ice knocked me for a loop!
I haven't been able to see all the replies here, but I know everyone is right on when they rave about this wonderful person's generosity. I will never forget how fortunate I am to have you as a benefactor in this event. I thank you so much, from the very bottom of my heart.
I hope you all are faring well after the storm. I'm still without power and may not get back online for a few days, so I may not reply right away, but I would like to get in on that DU meetup in DC!
I'll have my camera, too. They won't confiscate my video camera, will they? :eyes:
