I just heard Little Matty's not running for re-election (officially)
I work in Jeff City and just heard (the way these things get passed quickly around town) that our Dear Little Leader has officially announced (or will very soon) that he's not running for a second term.

I wouldn't be pinning your hopes on being Mitty's VP if I were you, Guvna.

2. Well...
It's hard to personally vouch for this. My partner works for the Sec State's office, and his co-worker told him this, and she claims to have "sources". Apparently there's been no press release yet (Matt's not the type to actually get up in front of reporters to announce something like this, he's too scaredy).

When I hear something more I'll report. Gonna go look at google for a sec.

supposed to call a press conference later.

Good effing riddance, boy blunder. Jay would have kicked your ass.

7. Maybe he'll get a cushy gig at his stepmom's lobbying firm . . .
Good riddance! Governor Skippy can't leave soon enough.

8. Interesting item on fired up mo
Matt Blunt spent an otherworldly $89,300.08 on "legal fees" to law firm Lathrop & Gage between November 9th and December 31st of 2007. That's an awful lot of campaign money to be paying lawyers.

on what prompted him to back out?

(edited to add a link I found interesting)

“What we set-out to achieve four years ago has been accomplished,” Blunt said.

Democrats scoffed at such claims. House Minority Leader Paul LeVota, an Independence Democrat, last week said Blunt produced budget surpluses by cutting health care for the poor and disabled and starving colleges to the point that the University of Missouri tuition is the highest in the Big 12.

“The governor has gotten a lot of things passed, but they are not things that are good for the people of Missouri,” LeVota said.

9. sounds like Kit Bond is resigning...
Roy is taking Kits place, and Matt will go after Roys seat. At least that's the rumor I heard today. Does it make sense?

10. Interesting
But I doubt Roy could win a statewide race. Not this year. He surely isn't popular enough outside of SW MO.

12. Bond is a whiskey drunk
I'm surprised he hasn't retired before now, the name blunt is tainted now, I don't think papa doc could even get re-elected in his own district now. The rats are all jumping ship, after four years of baby doc and reptilian leadership it's going to be a long time before we're bothered with them again.

11. Ouch.
Were it Blunt in the race, it would be a sure thing for Nixon. This opens up the possibility for competition.
