I just found this out and am going to bring it to your attention.
I was going to go to the battered women's shelter to donate some things (cell phones, etc) this week and found to my dismay that the nearest battered women's shelter is about an hour and a half away now because they shut down the area shelter. I don't know if this is Bush or Blunt's idea of family values but I find it reprehensible and disgusting that women who may or may not have the transportation and who are living in fear must go that far to get help. I don't know if closure of domestic violence centers is limited to Missouri or if it has spread to other states as well but I just wanted to bring it up as something for people to start thinking about.

2. Tragic indeed. I'd say Blunt' idea.

3. Of course, that is shocking.
But most women's shelters are privately funded along with available federal and state funds. And we know that Missouri's GOP-dominated legislature does not not care about funding anything public. Unless it is an incentive for big business, that is.
It has become very difficult to sustain such issues.

For more on Missouri's problems, see my editorial on the Hancock Amendment, or see it on my blog:
