Some switch party for primary

BY ROBYNN TYSVER

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Linda Richards is a Democrat who recently became a Republican. She believes the switch was the only way to cast a meaningful vote for governor of Nebraska this year.

The Ralston resident has registered with the GOP in anticipation of the May 9 primary.

She said the Democrats won't have much of a chance next fall against the winner of a Republican primary that features a former football coach and an incumbent governor.

"This is the race, right here. I don't see the November election as a real contest," Richards said.

She isn't trying to insult Lincoln businessman David Hahn, the probable Democratic nominee, "but the reality is, this primary will decide the governor's race."

1. too bad independents can't vote
I might do that but I won't pad the repub's stats or make them think they are doing a super job since people are switching to their party. OK, actually, I'm just too lazy. I really hope TO wins. The only bad thing about TO's chances is that people who support him are more likely to be voters who won't bother to vote in a primary.

2. Falling down
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting pretty tired of Democrats admitting defeat so easily. I don't necessarily expect Hahn to become governor, but I do hope for it. I get really sick of the "Well, the Republicans have it in the bag" line of rhetoric. At what point do you grow a spine, and start fighting what might (but might not, in the end) be a losing battle?

3. Good point.
Spoko you make a good point. Maybe some of us should volunteer for the Hahn campaign. Here is a link to his website:

4. The problem with Nebraska is that most of the 'democrats' are like
Ben Nelson. They are republicans suffering from an identity crisis.

6. Throwing up their arms
Some of my friends are now with the Green Party,
or Libertarian because of frustration with the
Democrats in Nebraska.
I continue to be a yellow dog - to get my guy in
and to keep the republican out.
