Just got home from the Esch party... |
|
What a blast! It's at Jobber's Canyon, a restaurant housed in an old brick warehouse in the Old Market District. At least two of the three main TV channels have vans out in front, and the band can be heard even a couple of blocks away. It's standing room only, and people are dancing, cheering, and having a terrific time! One reporter said she thinks the average age there is about late 20's, and I'd have to agree. I'm 32, and it's so incredible to see people my age running such a close race. I'm so proud of Jim and everyone else. The mood is upbeat, and there is genuine enthusiasm for Jim just overflowing there. (As opposed to Terry's party, where they have to manufacture some energy whenever the TV cameras are on!)
The news reports have been entertaining, to say the least. When they show Lee Terry's party, it is so freaking PATHETIC! Jim Esch supporters are WAY cooler! :)
For most of the time we were there, Jim was ahead. Lee got on TV just a bit ago and was whining about how he's "never trailed before." He obviously was caught WAY off guard to be trailing at 11:00 in the evening. HAH! His whole attitude toward Jim says he finds him an annoying little kid who needs to be taught a lesson. I HOPE it's Terry that gets a lesson tonight!
Jim has been saying all evening that he expects the race to tighten and even for him to trail for awhile while the western part of the county is coming in. But that if they can hold on through that, he is confident that he can take the eastern part of the city. And so far, that appears to be happening. Terry has just pulled ahead, and the votes coming in are from the western part of the state. It's going to be a long evening.
GO JIM!

Gosh, I hope he wins! I'd like to knock that self-satified, priggish, whiny, mama's-boy expression off Terry's smug little face!
But even if Esch can't pull it out--making Terry sweat a bit is well worth the effort, IMO.
I wish I could have stayed at the party longer, but neither my husband nor I can take tomorrow off, so we needed to get home.
I was bummed to see Kleeb and Moul down. :( But still, it doesn't look like it's going to be a blowout for either of them, so that's a really big deal!
No matter what happens this evening, I think Nebraska Democrats should feel very proud of our candidates, and of ourselves. We've done good! :)
