1. Dem gains in NH legislature |
|
The Democrats now hold 8 out of 24 seats in the state senate, and about 140 seats out of 400 in the House. In addition, Democrat Deb Pignatelli won a seat on the 5 member Executive Council, which approves all major gubernatorial appointments and all state contracts over $5,000.
Keep in mind that while the Dems are still in the minority, we now have enough votes to swing deals with various GOP factions, particularly the Main Street Republican Caucus, the cenrist faction that includes people like Liz Hager and Cynthia Dokmo. In addition, a number of maverick conservatives appear to be ready to work with Democrats to pass some ethics/lobbying/campaign finance reform legislation.
