Sullivan Calls For Firing of Brown and Chertoff
Sullivan Backs Congressional Investigation Into Disaster Response; Calls for Firing of Brown and Chertoff

(MANCHESTER) State Rep.Peter Sullivan today voiced his support for a congressional investigation into the federal response to Hurricane Katrina.

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs has announced that it will hold hearings on the response effort.

"The tragedy in Louisiana and Mississippi has laid bare severe shortcomings in our ability to respond to catastrophe" said Sullivan. "Anyone who cares about America's ability to respond to a disaster, be it natural or man-made, should support a thorough investigation into the failed response by FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security to Hurricane Katrina".

Sullivan also called for the immediate firing of FEMA director Michael Brown and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

"Director Brown and Secretary Chertoff have given incompetence a bad name. Their planning was nonexistent. Their response to the crisis was lethargic. Their attempts to shirk responsibility is revolting. At a time when our country needs forthright leaders,. this administration gives us two men more concerned with partisan spin than with human suffering. Brown and Chertoff failed America, and they must be fired immediately".

Rep. Peter Sullivan lived in New Orleans from 1993-1996. He is a graduate of the University of New Orleans, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Sullivan's wife, Katya, formerly worked for the Delta Service Corps, an AmeriCorps agency, and for Associated Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Sullivan's mother-and-father-in-law, Robert and Tanya Williams, are residents of New Orleans. They are currently staying with family members in Arkansas.
