Church Janitor Charged in Slaying of NJ Priest
Source: ABC News

Authorities investigating the stabbing death of a priest arrested the church janitor Saturday, alleging he stabbed the cleric 32 times with a kitchen knife after arguing with him in the rectory.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi said that 64-year-old Jose Feliciano was charged in the murder of the Rev. Ed Hinds, whose body was found Friday in the rectory kitchen of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Chatham.

The pair got into an argument on Thursday evening, and it was during the altercation that Feliciano grabbed a knife and stabbed the 61-year-old Hinds multiple times, Bianchi said.

Feliciano, who also faces weapons charges, had worked at the church for 17 years. He was arrested Saturday.

The guy who sings "Feliz Navidad" killed a priest.

He stabbed Hinds in the Rectory?

I need more coffee.

11. Psst ...
It's gallows humor. If you're too sensitive for it, that's sad, but that's what it was.

ALSO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOUT.

But if yours was an ironic retort, 's alright.

7. Who knows what snaps in a person to commit such a heinous act?
Mental illness, substance abuse? It's a very sad end to the life of a priest who reportedly ministered to the poor and the needy in his community.

14. NJ Priest Slain in Church Rectory is Mourned

NJ priest slain in church rectory is mourned
By VICTOR EPSTEIN (AP) – 8 hours ago

CHATHAM, N.J. — Services will be held Saturday at St. Patrick's Church in this tiny borough, a moment of continuity for a community rocked by the slaying of the Rev. Ed Hinds in the town's first violent death in 20 years.

The 61-year-old Roman Catholic priest was found in his clerical robes in the rectory kitchen at about 8 a.m. Friday after he failed to appear for morning Mass. Authorities say the priest's work with the needy may have made him vulnerable but will not say whether they have a suspect.

Dazed and angry parishioners lifted the yellow crime scene tape outside the church's school Friday afternoon as they walked their children home in this upscale community, where the median family income is $132,000 a year. Neighbors gathered in small groups to watch investigators search through piles of leaves and under bushes outside their homes, pulling their coats around them in the autumn wind.

Seems like there have been a manifestation of murders surrounding the virgin mary, lately.

I hope they arrest these people that prey on others, in the name of all that is true. One wonders from whence they derive, but expect it is depravity as implied in other posts.

15. Makes one wonder if he was complicit in the rape or molestation
of some little boy who exacted some revenge. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

16. That is despicable
The man is loved by his parish and he was just killed. There is no reason to suggest anything of that type when there is no accusation of that.

19. They were all loved before they were found out
It's common knowledge that the catholic clergy who were not pedophilia perverts, knew who the child rapers were within the rectory for decades, if not centuries. The catholic clergy is a brotherhood like a secret society so they all know what's going on. Who's the drunk, who's having an affair with a parishioner, and who's diddling little boys. They are complicit in enabling the child molesters by keeping silent and transferring the perves from parish to parish for decades so they could rape again and again.

I was born and raised in perve central by nuns for 12 years, the archdiocese of Boston. The place where Bernie Law skipped town to hide in the vatican before he was arrested for aiding and abetting the molestation and rape of little boys.

I'm frankly kind of surprised more priests haven't been killed. Only about 5 killed in the past decade. Unfortunately some of the molestation and rape victims have committed suicide, rather than taking out the holy roller.

Sorry if this post offends you, but when I see a religion oriented post on DU, my blood boils with hate for that brotherhood of eccentrics dressed in medieval costumes brainwashing people with stories about imaginary sky people. It has a horrible influence on people just like islam telling their illiterate that they can be a suicide bomber and meet up with 72 virgins.

Colossally stupid teachings.

In addition, this was not a post on religion. It was about the murder of a man.

What's the matter with a post on religion if it has something to do with the news. Is there a stigma against such here on DU?

35. I don't think there is
I was responding to the post that mentioned religion in an extremely negative way. As the mother of a daughter who just graduated, with highest honors, with a degree in religious studies, with a concentration in world religions, I would never have suggested that as it is 180 gegrees from what I think. I think that as religion does affect many people's world view, it is not just reasonable to write about it, but imperative that we consider its impact both domestically and internationally.

I have posted Senator Kerry's Pepperdine speech on his own religious views and how they informed him. I have also posted an excellent speech he gave dealing with all faiths. It is impossible to understand the middle east or the near east without some understanding of their faiths.

29. What a filthy, narcissistic little piece of your mind that was.
I visit frequently with parents who have been falsely accused by their adult children of horrific, unspeakable acts - satanic ritual abuse, child impregnation and cannibalism, and government mind control programming - because of crap fantasies encouraged by incompetent and irresponsible recovered memory therapists. The emotional torture these parents go through as a result of these sick accusations is second only to the devastating grief they experience in losing the children they love to icy hatred and emotional self-destruction.

It is flip, garbage accusations like your post that perpetuate a breeding ground for these sorts of witch hunts. They also hurt those who have truly been victimized by rapists and pedophiles, because they infect ALL claims with the doubts that linger from accusations based on hunches, fantasies, and feelings....a.k.a., no evidence at all.

Not many OP's make me physically sick, but yours did the trick. This priest is a human being. You have no evidence whatsoever that this human being ever engaged in child rape or torture. In fact, YOU are the rapist for suggesting this publicly in the absence of any evidence whatsoever. Your post is despicable, and you ought to be ashamed of yourself.
