Candidate donates $47.50 to himself
The Associated Press
Article Launched: 04/29/2008 11:25:22 AM MDT

LAS CRUCES, N.M.—A Democratic candidate for Congress on Tuesday wrote a $47.50 check to his campaign, staging an event to contrast his opponent's campaign loans worth $475,000.

Bill McCamley, a former Las Cruces real estate agent and Dona Ana County commissioner, is facing Harry Teague, who works in the oilfield services industry, in the June 3 primary election for the 2nd Congressional District race.

Teague made a $125,000 loan to his campaign last week, then followed with a $350,000 loan on Monday.

"I am not a millionaire or oil industry executive, but I am pleased to provide my campaign with this contribution," McCamley said.

"With gas prices reaching new records every day, this $47.50 will almost pay for our campaign's next tank of gas as we take our message of fixing Washington for the middle class across the 2nd District."

Teague countered by saying he provides health care for his employees, supports charitable causes and offers college scholarships for students. He contended he helped create "thousands of good-paying jobs" as a Lea County commissioner. .... more at link

2. He's OIL
Not only that, but Bill McCamley is bright, smart, young, well-educated and already won at least one election (Dona Ana County Commission). Teague is a nice enough man, but he's OIL. We need alternative energy sources and I just don't see him pursuing them the way McCamley would.

3. McCamley is no prize...he slavishly went along with Richardson on
the spaceport deal...taxing some of the poorest who will not benefit to provide welfare for Richard Branson.

Want to create jobs? Build a rail link from LC to ABQ. And buy some new textbooks...building a spaceport with a "promise" to education is not as good as buying the damned books NOW!

Then McCamley is pandering to the fireworks crowd. I met him, he's nice, but not thanks to him, either.

4. So are you just not going to vote for CD2?
The spaceport thing is a singular operation; being in the oil industry is a forever kind of point of view. I still think Bill is far and away one of the best candidates I've seen in a long time.
