The West Side Stadium plans collapse!! Hooray!! Hooray!!
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am THRILLED about the collapse of this ridiculous idea, and with it, the plans for the Olympics coming to NYC! Both concepts struck me as two of the worst ideas for NYC ever conceived. I am celebrating, and hope these follies are lost and gone forever!

3. Yes, Excellent news!

Bloomberg should pay back the $25 million in taxpayer funds that he used on the stupid wall-to-wall ad blitz for "NYC2012". He spent that $25 million while cutting $13 million from the libraries.

I am still worried that Silver will cut a deal where they back his construction project and he backs their boondoggles. But at least the Olympic monkey is off of our back!

4. Oh thank goodness!
I hope ever proposing this boondoggle in the first place costs Bloomberg his job in November.

6. I share in your exultation
Here in central NM, in one of the poorest 5 states in the country, the mayor wanted to hang his name on a bright and shiny new venue for concerts and business extravaganzas, never mind that we had a huge outdoor theater (it works in the desert) and huge convention hall downtown, both under 10 years old. Well, a neighboring city decided IT wanted this shiny new white elephant, so they took it off our hands. Our Hizzoner is snot-slinging furious. We're all rejoicing. Let THEM pay for this boondoggle. We're fed up.

So we share your joy in shooting down another ridiculous venue that nobody needs except the politician and corporation whose names will adorn it.

8. Terrific
I hope it bites Bloomberg in the ass. Probably won't though as there seems to be little campaigning for the Democratic mayoral primary. Of course I seldom get the papers so am very far behind on local news. Anyone who knows different please tell me.

One less thing in New York City for the rest of the state to pay for.

10. Fuck Yeah ! Maybe now, better priorities will be attended to. . .
like revitalizing lower Manhattan. This stadium wasn't going to do it.

Besides, where are Jets fans gonna have their tailgate parties?

13. The Ratner project is next!
The other big boondoggle being proposed is the Ratner project in Brooklyn, to build a new arena for the Nets (basketball team) as part of a major development project. It also deserves to be shot down. Maybe our victory on the West Side Stadium will remind people that this kind of proposal can be defeated.

14. Absolutely! Another corporate boondoggle at the expense of taxpayers and
the "little" people.

16. now
if we could only get the local news to stop showing that digital footage of that hideous boxy stadium file footage! everytime they talk about the ny olympic bid or anything to do with the damned stadium, they run that crappy "playstaion-style" footage they got from doctoroff.

and i hope my subway money isn't going to those 2010 stickers on every subway car, like we got the bid already.

very republican: just keep acting like it's a done deal.

17. This is great news
it was a bad idea no matter what part of the state you are from. Hope NYC voters remember this at election time. The city deserves a dem mayor.
