I may have to move there in a couple of years and would like to know how much it would cost me to live there. My salary would go up by around 6% I am just wondering how much of that I would lose to rent.

1. my daughter pays $550. for a 1 bdrm
about the cheapest she could find in a complex. I suspect 2 bdrms to go for $650-$675. But who's to say in a couple of years??

One thing about CH/Carr. It's a small town with many apts available in homes or homes that have been turned into apts, etc. But there is an ample supply of complexes, with many w/in driving distance from Durham, Morrisville, RTP, etc.

2. I figured as much
That would take up almost all of the extra money but if it comes to that there would be some great tradeoffs.

3. The way they are building Apt's in the Triangle Area...you would get
a bargain in a couple of years...If things tank they way I'm thinking.

Overbuilding. You don't just have to live in CH you know....

4. I am thinking of coming out at work
and Chappel Hill/ Carrborro is one of the three districts which has a non discrimination policy toward gays. It is by far the closest to where I currently live. I am hoping things will go well when I do so but I fear it likely won't. In any case I figure I will be doing this at the end of next school year which is why I said a couple of years.

5. I don't know about Raleigh
Gay Community...but I think we have one...but there's building EVERYWHERE...TOO MUCH BUILDING. They are planning on all the Seniors leaving the Coastal Areas of Florida and upwards moving to this area because of the easy access to beach/mountains.

Carrboro and Chapel Hill/Durham are probably still your best mix for your lifestyle...but as I said, in a year or two...you will have your pick of great places, I think. You might even get a "McMansion" for $500. a month. Not the whole thing...but those folks will need to have tenants...if it goes the way I think...so your timeframe is probably a good one. If you like "service industries" with a little "tech mix" you've got it.

6. I like to live close to work
and given the traffic situation that would mean being in the same town or very close. Teaching is draining and I don't want a commute of more than 20 minutes or so. Again, for the most part I am hoping it doesn't come to that, but if it does I intend to be prepared.

7. Depends on where you want to live in CH.
If you don't mind living in a complex w/lots of UNC undergrad students, you could probably get a 2 br for 625-700.

If (like me) you treasure relative peace and quiet, be prepared to pay more.

feel free to pm me- I've looked at more than a few complexes out here in Chapel Hill/Carrboro!
