Sen. Burr voting to cut NC health care... call him!
Thanks to many of you who've already made phone calls...but we can't stop now!

Sen. Burr needs to hear from you now more than ever:
Don't cut health care for North Carolina!

NC Senator Richard Burr publicly says he considers the nation's number one domestic issue to be health care. Thus far, his actions do not match his words--but we still have time to make a difference!

Senator Burr is a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. This committee has taken up the "Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and Affordability Act (HIMMA, S. 1955)." This bill allows insurance plans to ignore state benefit protections. If passed, women in North Carolina will suffer drastic cuts to their health care, including: contraceptive coverage, direct access to Ob/Gyns, osteoporosis screening, maternity care, cervical cancer screening, and well-child care.

S. 1955 not only allows insurance plans to ignore state laws that protect patients; it will also increase costs for the older and sicker people who need health insurance most.

Yesterday, Senator Burr voted to make these cuts to health care. The Committee considered amendments that would have required insurance plans to cover cancer screenings, diabetes care, mental health treatment, and to provide coverage for children. Senator Burr opposed these amendments. The Committee also considered a substitute bill that would have expanded access to health care without eliminating benefit protections like contraceptive equity. Senator Burr opposed this as well. His actions speak louder than his words.

With nearly 50 amendments remaining, the HELP Committee was forced to postpone its consideration of the bill until next week.

ACT NOW! This bill is bad for women, bad for health care, and bad for North Carolina. It will come to a vote in committee early next week--Senator Burr MUST hear from you today!

Call Senator Burr TODAY at (202) 224-3154 and tell him to PROTECT HEALTH CARE FOR NORTH CAROLINA and VOTE NO on HIMMA, S. 1955.
