I dissed Cleveland in the Michigan forum...not bad..just they are not a one horse town..just a one bathroom town..7 bedrooms 1 bathroom..what are they afraid of??? FLUSHING? I think that is in NY????
East Cleveland is soo in need of rehabbing...it has wonderful old neighborhoods with great homes. I love it...hey....I almost moved to Detroit..I ain't afraid of nothing!..we do not do drugs, we do not party, and we do not go out at night..I will feel safe no matter where I live.
on edit...okay I have not said how much I really think Cleveland is a great city..and with 2 million people it is vibrant and will probably overcome any obstacle thrown at it...to me Cleveland is non descipt...but ..Norfolk VA..talk about non descript...Cleveland has more culture in a city block than Norfolk has in its entire city..I know...I live in Norfolk VA

1. If you have kids East Cleveland is a very bad idea |
|
In Ohio schools are very local affairs. East Cleveland's are a total disaster. The city is also a disaster. I would think very carefully on this. Cleveland proper, though the schools are bad is a better place.

2. Euclid, Cleveland Hts, and Mayfield Hts would be better choices but not by much. |
|
Leave it to Beaver's suburban location was modeled on residential Mayfield Hts. Most of the area has remained true to those 50s ways, but the Metro Parks are great places for all outdoor picnicing, nature, and hiking activities.

5. The Mayfield area is by FAR safer and with much better schools than Euclid or Cle Hts. |
|
How you get that it's not much better than East Cleveland, I'm not quite sure. I find the area boring, myself, but boring beats the hell out of murdered...

7. I grew up in Area B of South Euclid - a mile from the Cleveland |
|
and/or Euclid lines. Charles F. Brush HS was once, believe it or not, the 2nd highest-rated system in the state below Shaker Hts. I remember searching the Euclid-Green (Beverly Hills) woods for Sam Shepard's gun--quite a case. And getting the best ribs from Page's BBQ on Terrace. The OP is correct about the houses in E. Cleveland w/character though crumbling; it's the characters who are likely to be your neighbors nowdays.

6. Cleveland area does NOT want people to live there..in their 'Heights" |
|
one is expectecd to place in escrow 150% of the estimate to refurbish a home to 'their' standards. that is why the homes are selling for $1,000 because you have to escrow $50,000 or more based on what 'their' estimate is...even a contractor who can do all the repairs himself must come up with that escrow money...OHIO has problems and many are of their own making.
We have put in an offer on a home in Detroit and it is a lovely home..still got copper in it from what I hear tell!!!

8. I respect and applaud your efforts; good luck to you in recreating |
|
the good graces of a fine home for yourself, others, and/or the community. And yeah, screw the Hts. I had no idea THAT's the case, but I'm not surprised. Those communities, IMO, have always been about selfishness, and a greedy I've got mine, if you move away, don't ever come back stance. That's exactly why they're in that mess.

9. The most generous donors to Ohio Democratic candidates come from those "Heights" that you disparage |
