Emily Brown, mother of Senator Sherrod Brown. |

She was such a good person! And now she can rest in peace; her son is finally on the winning side. God Bless Her. http://www.cleveland.com/obituaries/index.ssf/2009/02/emily_campbell_brown_dies_sena.html

3. I had the privilege of meeting her a couple of times |
|
She was the picture of a lady. She had a sweet and kind voice with a bit of a Georgian accent. The kind that made you think of front porches and iced tea. She told stories in a calm, persuading way.
She was so generous that she came to a house party for Obama that I hosted (arranged by the Regional Field Director). I made cucumber sandwiches and iced tea (hoping that would impress her). She was kind enough to compliment me on both.
Sweet, sweet lady. She was definitely a treasure to her friends and family as well as those in her community.
My deepest condolences go out to her family.

4. what a wonderful story. |

This sounds silly, but my favorite memory of her was when I was working as the coordinated campaign director for Lorain County when Sherrod was a Congressman. She called me out of the blue for a ride to an event one day. She was so funny and acted like you were her best friend. I had seen her at public appearances before then, but didn't even know her really yet! She was just remarkable in every way.

It doesn't surprise me that she called you out of the blue. She made me feel like I had known her forever too. I'm sure she didn't remember our few meetings during the '06 campaign - she must have met thousands of people. But she made me feel like she did. She hugged me when she saw me and told us "insider" stories. lol...
One that she told was how the Republicans kept the vote open for the Medicare bill and worked on other Republicans to switch their vote. they kept it open until the wee hours of the morning and as soon as they found one they could get to switch, they pounded the gavel and closed voting. She told the story with such passion and amazement (disappointed awe) at the way they were handling our Congress.
I hope everyone reads your link to learn some of the amazing things that she did in her life. She proudly told me once that she was probably the only person in the room that voted for FDR. I wish I could convey the stories to do her justice. She was just the picture of a lady, a patriot, a compassionate human being, a Democrat.
If you can find the Mansfield News Journal story from yesterday, there were many posts from people whose lives she touched. She will be missed a great deal, but her legacy will live on forever.

7. thanks for the tip about the Mansfield News. |

I have been crying and not knowing where to look.
It is just jolting to me that sometimes it takes millions to change the world, so how does it turn out for some that they can have, as one, so much impact.
I try, everyday, to make my contribution, and somehow I think I never measure up.
She is a true inspiration.
