We will need to make our voices heard more
--"On January 8, hundreds of Ohioans gathered outside a pre-inauguration event at the Columbus statehouse in subfreezing temperatures to send a message to the newly-elected Republican Governor John Kasich. ... it was so cold, the bullhorns wouldn't work, but that didn't stop citizens from denouncing Governor Kasich's plans to repeal the state's collective bargaining law for public employees, raise tuition at colleges and universities, and privatize Ohio state prisons."

--"At another action on January 14, more than 400 people attended a candlelight rally outside City Hall in Cincinnati to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and express their support for healthcare and childcare providers. They also condemned Governor Kasich's anti-worker plan to strip them of their bargaining rights and get rid of wage rules, which mandate union-wages for public projects."

You can read more about both of these rallies that M$M "forgot" to cover at http://www.truth-out.org/vision-across-country-people-are-rising-up-fight-change67680

One thing we need to do and do regularly is take every opportunity we have to make sure all Ohioans know just what they put in office for the next four years. This past election was not an endorsement of a jerk from Lehmann Brothers and all his buddies. Strickland got swept away in people's fear and frustration at not having jobs. We need to make buyer's remorse a constant reminder and keep the pressure on. Many of the Rethuglican reps squeaked in in 2010, and if things get worse by 2012, they won't last.

2. I agree
We have similar anti-labor legislation being rammed down our throats to what is happening in Wisconsin. Those folks are MOBILIZED and fighting back big time. In Ohio? I can hear crickets. Apparently we don't give a damn about public employees here.

Answers for Tea Party supporters
Tea Party members will be coming out to support SB 5. The Buckeye Institute makes it clear that ending collective bargaining is a priority. However, the Ohio Democratic Pary does not want any confrontations between public employees, union members or their supporters and Tea Party members. (And there may be individuals with a different agenda using the Tea Party as cover to antagonize or create problems that would be reported in the media.)
Any interactions between anti-SB 5 and pro-SB 5 Ohioans should be positive.
Messages to the Tea Party should be two-fold:

Join us in building and strengthening the middle class in Ohio and America. We are you and you are us. We share the same values, good jobs, affordable health care, a strong economy.
Public employees serve you. Did you make coffee or take a shower this morning? They make sure your water is clean. Did you see a nurse in the past year because you or your family member was ill? They help you feel better. Did you shop for groceries in the past week? They stock your shelves with food. Did you drive on roads to Columbus today? Thet pave those roads. Do you feel safe knowing the police or a firefighter is a phone call away? They are your cops and your firefighters.

Talking points about public employees
The Ohio Democratic Party has issued myth-busters about HB5. Check them out on UAPA's website!
