1. Good?

No such thing in Oklahoma. :-)

You can get the Daily Oklahoman, the highest circulation newspaper in OK, at: http://newsok.com

The Oklahoman is a Republican controlled newspaper, so be aware, but you'll probably find the most stories about the trial here.

McAlester, where the trial is being held, has an online paper: http://www.mcalesternews.com/news/ but I'm not familiar with it. I doubt it has much.

2. Thanks! I'll go check them out. There has been very little...
..about the case in the news so I'm hoping a more local paper will have something. I did find the oddities listed below. Very strange indeed.

Document: Oklahoma City Bombing Was Taped
By JOHN SOLOMON, Associated Press Writer
Mon Apr 19, 6:59 PM ET

WASHINGTON - A Secret Service document written shortly after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing described security video footage of the attack and witness testimony that suggested Timothy McVeigh (news - web sites) may have had accomplices at the scene.

"Security video tapes from the area show the truck detonation 3 minutes and 6 seconds after the suspects exited the truck," the Secret Service reported six days after the attack on a log of agents' activities and evidence in the Oklahoma investigation.

An entry a day earlier on the same log reported that the security video was consistent with a witness' account that he saw McVeigh's getaway car in the lead before a woman guided the truck to its final parking spot in front of the Murrah building.

"A witness to the explosion named Grossman claimed to have seen a pale yellow Mercury car with a Ryder truck behind it pulling up to the federal building," the log said. The witness "further claimed to have seen a woman on the corner waving to the truck."

A Secret Service agent named McNally "noted that this fact is significant due to the fact that the security video shows the Ryder truck pulling up to the Federal Building and then pausing (7 to 10 seconds) before resuming into the slot in front of the building," the log said. "It is speculated that the woman was signaling the truck when a slot became available."

4. Daily Oklahoman is known as the Daily Disappointment
Columbia journalism review 1 time listed it as the worst newspaper in the country.

7. Had a professor once...
A journalism professor I had would use the Oklahoman as an object lesson in how not to put together a newspaper.

6. Wouldn't you like to know?
I think it's the aliens. I saw a sattelite photo of my home town once, and the running joke among my friends ever after was that our town was obviously the landing site of a gigantic alien ship. From that distance, it looked like the town was built at the center of a giant saucer-shaped depression.

Seriously, though, I wonder the same thing myself ... often.

8. Did you ever listen to the audio clip from NPR regarding...
...the Secret Service log where they are talking about the video of the explosion and the suspects (plural) involved? That thing freaked me out and I am fearless! :)

This link should still work:

9. Hadn't heard that particular report...
I have heard this before. I've actually heard several things along these lines that make my skin crawl.

When this happened, the idea of "disappearing" news stories wasn't something I considered. (I've learned much since.) One story I distinctly remember from just days after the bombing involved the various video cameras around the Federal Building and the FBI collecting them. I remember this because it was indicated that we could soon expect to see video of the front of the building just prior to the bombing. I kept waiting, but nothing ever came, just the brief mention of the video from the apartment building that didn't actually show anything but the truck itself passing by. This was all before McVeigh was identified; it was promised as a part of identifying who the public should look out for, but then McVeigh was identified, and there was nothing.

I kept thinking, :wtf:

The initial conspiracy theories involved the bomb material and whether a fertilizer bomb could actually do that much damage. Paying attention to these arguments and checking the known facts as closely as I could myself, I determined these theories were way off base, but by the time they'd run their course, the stories about other videos and other suspects was completely gone, at least until just before McVeigh's execution when the public first became aware of evidence the FBI had failed to turn over to the defense.

Nichols' defense team brought something like 90 witnesses to the stand, most of whom testified either to seeing other suspects or having knowledge of investigations of other suspects that were never followed-up once McVeigh was found to be in custody. The trial was very poorly attended -- no real national news presence, few local reports, and almost no citizen witnesses. But, many relatives have been there, and many of them are starting to make noises about what they haven't been told.

10. There are a lot of stories coming out everyday that few papers...
...seem to be picking up for some reason. I'll post a link below from Yahoo News that has at least a few of these stories, mostly from the AP. One of the articles addresses the twenty three tapes the FBI lists in their evidence inventory that have not seen the light of day.
