I posted this on GD:Campaign 2004 as well, but I was vere encouraged by my quick trip through the OU campus late this morning.
My polling place is just across the street from the dorms, and someone I ran into at the polls told me they had huge lines at the polls on campus. I wasn't even aware they had polling places on campus (they didn't when I lived on campus), so I wanted to check it out. I could never get in to the buildings to verify the huge lines, but I can say that I have never seen so much election activity on this campus. (I've been on campus for the last 2 presidential elections as well.) There were huge groups of people walking over to the polls, sporting "I Voted" stickers, or catching rides on the golf carts that are running from the ovals (where the classroom buildings are) to the polls.
I did see some repubs (they set up rides as well, and were calling to students in a bullhorn), but I didn't see anybody gathering around them. I did, however, see a couple of golf carts loaded down with dems (judging by overheard comments). Lots of minorities involved too.
The heavy turnout among the youth is NOT a myth. (even here in OK.)

It took an hour and a half, and probably half of the people in line were UCO students and grad students. Nearly 3/4 of everybody in line were women. It was still pretty whitebread, but I saw a LOT of kids in line... I was encouraged, to say the least!

Just came back from the polling station at Meridian Votech in Stillwater. The lady at the booth said last year they had ~750 votes cast. This year, they reached 800 already by noon.

She told me that there were a number of first time voters and they were a little confused by the ballot. The electors names were right by the arrow and it messed a few up. She also said that a bunch of them "Just wanted to know how to vote for Kerry". So, she showed them where to mark. Then those kids went and showed the others. :)
