Woo hoo! Hope ya like WIND! The Willamette valley's getting...
...slammed with some pretty strong winds right now. Lights flickering in in the North and South ends of Eugene, probably same in Springfield.

Be careful out there!

1. Power out here in Aloha/Beaverton area. Tree and powerline
down across the road, with a truck caught underneath it. We have a generator, so we have lights, but from the things I'm hearing on the scanner, lots of trees and powerlines out, fires here and there. Can see flashes from transformers blowing all around us.

How's everyone else doing?

Power crews and police were kept busy around Lane County Thursday night as a storm whipped its way through western Oregon.

Gusts of 44 mph were recorded at Eugene Airport, with sustained winds of 33 mph shortly before 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, numerous downed lines were reported in Eugene/Springfield and outlying areas throughout the evening. Power outages were reported in Oakridge, south Eugene, Santa Clara and Springfield.

Trees were reported down along numerous roads, including Royal Avenue, Deerhorn Road, Crow Road and Camp Creek Road.

Lines were down on Prairie Road, River Road, Dillard Road and Marcola Road among other locations.

The forecast was for heavy rain at times with chance of thunderstorms overnight and a south wind 25 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph. The wind was forecast to reach 20 to 30 mph late with gusts to 50 mph and temperatures between 40 and 45 degrees. On Friday, showers were forecast and the snow level was expected to drop to 1,000 feet in the afternoon but no accumulation expected and temperatures 40 to 45 degrees.

So I'm pretty happy I've still got power!

3. Our power was out for the past 4 and a half hours on the Central Coast.
Lots of big trees coming down around here; the surf is crazy . . . waves appear to be about 30 feet.

5. Wow! That IS crazy! I did notice in the valley that the wind was...
...blowing for prolonged periods of time and only occasionally gusting. Normally it's the other way around.

4. The Klamath Basin too
We had really strong winds outside an hour or so ago. The power never went out though. Now it's raining.

6. Is everyone ok?
We didn't lose power in Florence, but wow, it was sure wild. Looks like the worst of it was north of Lincoln City. Parts of 126 to Eugene is closed, I don't know when it will open because it might flood at Cushman at high tide which I think is around 10 am, if anyone thought they were coming over on Friday. I heard Mapleton is out of power. Just wild.

7. I'm also wondering if........
everyone is doing alright???? I'm a Tri Met driver and the route I drive is the #12. The light show I got to see last night from King City all the way to Gresham was something else. Seeing transformers blowing out was something else. From my understanding here in my neighborhood we had rolling black outs, but our power stayed on. I live in Park Rose area. Just on my street, 2 trees came down. I'm just glad the trees were not any of the Douglas Fir.

8. Hey there Driver ....
I waited for the 96X from Tualatin (6:54PM @ Bridgeport Village), and it never came .....

So I hopped on the 76 (20 minutes late), and the driver explained how awful it was, and how he had to take a detour south on the 217 from Greenburg to just to exit the mess around Washington Square, which is pretty much gridlocked without traffic lights .... What a hideous night .... Flashes from blown transformers every couple of minutes ..... egads ....

I felt lucky to get home ....

THANKS for the great rides, btw .... LOVE Trimet ....

11. Glad to hear you made it home that night.
And how wacky is the weather? Did you get snow yesterday? We did and it is still very cold out here in Park Rose.

10. Power was out for nearly 24 hours here.
I'm in Coquille, in from Coos Bay.

But my trusty generator fired right up, and I kept on posting like a loon.

The worst part was the tree that fell had my streetlamp on it. So now I have work to do.

I love excitement.
