Anybody else wish Merkley would ANSWER Smith's crazy ads? |
|
Maybe he should just hire Steve Novick to do his ads. :eyes:

There was a big tadoo about the distortions implied in Smith's ads. Merkley is up in the polls, so I he should just keep going forward. But Smith's ads do drive me right around the bend. I don't think they're going to work.

when I saw his "I support bipartisanship" ad trying to hitch Smith's wagon to Obama's, until I discovered that it was bipartisan-friendly Obama who had first cited Smith, which I guess was the reason Smith felt it was okay for him to do the same.
Merkley's best bet is to knock the "independent thinker" legs out from under Smith by pointing to his voting record, which is almost entirely, straight=down-the-line lockstep with BushCo.

5. I have years of MegaVotes |

that show just how much Gordo "enjoys reaching across the aisle" if Merkely wants them.
Although, I agree w/the OP. He should hire Steve Novick to do his ads.

4. Well, Smith doesn't have to raise taxes |
|
After all, when the federal government overspends by, oh, half a trillion dollars or so, Smith just goes to our great and good friends the Chinese for a little bailout. The Oregon state government is constitutionally required to balance a budget. So if, let's just take a crazy couple of examples, the federal government decides to cut timber payments or create a mandate without funding it, it's up to the states to make up the difference.

6. I'm totally disenchanted with Merkley. |

It's time for Obama to do an anti-Smith ad.

7. I saw one of Smith's ads today. |

Allow me to summarize: OMG!!! MERKLEY = TAXES!!! OH NOEZ!!!
Either I'm simply not watching TV enough (which I believe is true), or Merkley is just sitting there while the Smith campaign hurls these pathetic talking points around. Merkley's gotta wake up; this Senate seat is critical.
(Incidentally, didn't the Merkley campaign conduct a fishy telephone poll during the primary in which Novick was called a "pro-tax advocate", whatever the hell that means? Or is my memory hazy? Just curious.)

8. I just saw a campaign add from Merkley directly answering Smith's |
|
attack. Looked pretty sound to me. That guy will never be able to be able to get away from "*" record. His only hope is voters short memories, and with gas at $4.30, memory is pretty fresh right now.
By the way, in keeping with DU tradition of supporting the candidate, I am coming out in full support of Merkley as our next Oregon Senator. As you may know I supported Novick and had yet to endorse Merkley. We're good now!
