Oregon Radio
I'm getting the stuff together for the campaign database. I don't listen to radio so I have no idea what stations carry liberal radio. Besides OPB, which I have, what should I include?

Also, if you know of any independent newspapers in Portland or elsewhere that I should include, add that info too.

Thanks!

2. KBOO: 90.7 FM in Portland
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 08:44 PM by 0rganism
Community radio, no commercials, all shows run by volunteers.

http://www.kboo.fm/index.php

Talk radio/public affairs programming in the morning blows AAR away much of the time, but it's also further to the left -- on the Nader edge -- and weighted to local issues. Give it a try from 7-10AM weekdays.

It's also one of the few stations that gives real airtime to local bands. All types of music represented, from Mariachi to Industrial to Bluegrass to Klesmer.

4. KBOO is amazing
90.7 mhz in Portland. You can also hear it in the Gorge from a relay transmitter in White Salmon, WA (reaching Hood River, The Dalles, Cascade Locks) on 91.9 mhz and in the Willamette Valley from Corvallis on 100.7 mhz.

Can't say enough good things about it. Unique.

3. Hey, sandnsea
What exactly do you need for this database in terms of radio?

I can show you a list of every station in the state with programming if you want. If you just want liberal radio, it's a short list but I can pare it down for you.

Same with newspapers... I read a lot of them statewide.

Just let me know! :)

6. I have to input them
Edited on Thu Apr-22-04 12:54 PM by sandnsea
So I don't want the whole list. I just want liberal radio.

I've got The Oregonian, Statesman, RegisterGuard, MailTribune and The World for newspapers. I tried to hit the main cities first, and then add smaller ones. But I was thinking it might be better to add independent newspapers, with web sites, before I worry about cities like KFalls.

I suppose other people could help input data if they wanted. I'll ask Skinner about it, I don't think there'd be any problem.

Thanks!

9. You'll want to add The Portland Alliance, of course
http://www.theportlandalliance.org/

The editor, Dave Mazza (sp?), is a true indy journalist. He broke the Kroeker tapes story, if you're familiar with that.

11. KRVM-AM 1280
Jefferson Public Radio. Covers Southern Oregon and parts of Northern California (roughly Ukiah to Eugene). Hosts "The Jefferson Exchange" (local call-in show), Diane Rheem, NPR hourly news updates, Talk of the Nation, Tavis Smiley, and more. They have a tower in Eugene. That's about all I know.
