Reynolds School District (Portland OR) just laid off 105 Special Ed Assistants. |
|
105 of the lowest paid employees in the school system...just booted them.
Hey! Now that the special ed students won't perform well maybe they can fire the teachers for doing a crappy job!

2. MY district may take a 25% cut to special ed next year as well |
|
the legislature is voting...25% this year and 25% more the next year. The money will go to their new pet project of all day kindergarten.

4. oh...i heard that the comment by the administrator was |
|
"I'll get some soccer mom's for half the money" but that is kind of gossip through the grapevine...but sure shows he doesn't have much respect for very qualified people doing a very difficult job.

5. Having taught for 230 years, I have no illusions about administrators. They get raises based |
|
on what they do that is "innovative." Saving money for the District to get a personal raise? No-brainer.

and that is pretty much every assistant. They now can't service their special ed classes and the parents will start suing. That is going to save them a lot of money, eh?

11. This is just pure shit |

Those with disabilities deserve the same education that non-disabled students get. If the school district is unable to provide that, then sue their asses.
When I was younger I had a minor learning disability (to be clear I am not from this school district, but have lived in Portland) and received help from 5th-12th grade (I needed minimal help by high school). I was one of the lucky ones who was able to go on to college because of the help I received.
