Court Refuses to Intervene against ACORN or political clothing at polls
Yesterday, the Republicans lost two court battles in Pennsylvania. In response to a memo from the top State election official, almost all counties have said they will not turn away a voter who is wearing a political shirt. The one exception that I know of is Monroe County.

Judge rules on attire at polls, ACORN voter-fraud cases
Counties can allow partisan clothing; GOP claim unproved.

By Mark Scolforo and Peter Jackson Of The Associated Press

October 31, 2008

Excerpts:

"A Pennsylvania state judge Thursday effectively left it up to the counties to decide if voters can wear partisan attire to the polls and refused to clamp down on the voter registration group ACORN as the state Republican Party had sought.

Also, Simpson refused the state Republican Party's request to force ACORN to turn over a list of the 140,000 Pennsylvania voters it says it has registered ... Simpson ..said he was not convinced that the party and its fellow individual plaintiffs can prove their allegations that ACORN is fostering voter-registration fraud and that the state's election system lacks the safeguards to stop it. ACORN spokesman Brian Kettenring said the group was pleased with the judge's ruling. ''To date the court has seen through the ridiculous assertion about voter fraud in Pennsylvania, and has seen this suit for what it is, an attempt at voter suppression,'' he said.

The suit, which argued that the state's election system is not adequate to guard against the fraud the party and individuals accuse ACORN of promoting, also named Secretary of State Pedro Cortes as a defendant. Cortes called the lawsuit's allegations against the state ''a frivolous attempt to undermine voter confidence.''

1. Allegheny county has told us (poll workers)
That people are allowed to come in with their buttons/hats/shirts/whatnot to vote, but they are not allowed to stand around inside the polling place actively electioneering, that has to be done outside. Seems quite reasonable to me.

2. I've never seen anyone harassed or complaining about t-shirts or buttons..
the whole thing seems silly to me, but I live in Pgh, where there are very few Republicans standing around anywhere!
