12th Democrats stuck with a bad case of the Critz for Special
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 07:09 AM by PADEMJES12
As tax season approaches, the Executive Board basically forfeited the special election
to the Republicans by selecting Mark Critz as JP pointed out. Critz is relatively unknown outside party insiders.

However, unfortunately for TJ Rooney and the Executive Board, who's inside political games
were much more important than selecting a well-qualified candidate of the highest ethical
integrity... CREW, Citizens for Ethics appears to have caught on to the shenanigans
pulled by back room deals in PA-12.

The backlash from voters is going to be tremendous this May. This is the peoples seat,
not that of the party insiders forcing less than the best qualified candidate down
our throats. Be sure to tune into coverage from pa2010 and Pennsylvania Progressive.

1. Well, there goes another legacy Democratic seat handed over to the GOP...

... I wouldn't EVER vote for Critz and a lot of the PA Dem party insiders need to go too.

Their nominee is selected Thursday i believe. Between Tim Burns and Bill Russell.
At this point blue neen, Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse as a write in is looking like a viable option
in the special.

4. That's correct. The Republican nominee will be chosen on the 11th.

I believe their process will be similar to the one Democrats are using. It's not the best selection system in the world, but there is nothing to be done about it at the present time. The most important thing is to work for whoever the Democratic candidate is. It's the least we can do.

Something to be noted, though. Their is also a primary election that day. There will be other Democratic candidates on the ballot for the primary. Please check JPZenger's link in this thread:

5. They went with Burns. From the local rag:
Republican newcomer Tim Burns of Eighty Four captured a special election nomination for Congress on Thursday, besting rival Bill Russell, a retired Army officer.

Burns, 41, will face Democrat Mark Critz on May 18 in the race to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Rep. John Murtha, who represented the 12th District.

Burns and Russell will face off again on primary Election Day, when nominees for a full-two year term will be selected.

Burns, who defeated Russell 85 to 46, told Republicans gathered at St. Vincent College near Latrobe that his election in May will be closely watched by a nation that wants to curb federal spending.
