However, that quote from Specter sounds very much taken out of context. I'll try and look it up, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that he was actually saying something like "There are some who think that my change in party will enable me to be re-elected." If anyone can prove one way or another which it is, I'd be happy to know.

I don't recall that exact moment but if it's 'taken out of context', it's not by much.
