Sean Logan (Monroeville) leaving the PA Senate for UPMC.
Logan to leave Senate for post at UPMC
Many yearn to fill 3-term Monroeville Democrat's position
Friday, July 30, 2010
By Steve Twedt and James O'Toole, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Sean Logan, the state senator who has represented Monroeville and 37 other eastern communities for the past decade, said the seed for his decision to leave the Legislature sprouted this spring, following his instrumental role in securing death benefits for police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty.

In marking the legislative victory in the spring, he met the family of state Trooper Paul Richey, 40, who was killed in January after responding to a domestic disturbance in Venango County. The Richeys were the first recipients of the state-backed benefits that provide families the full monthly salary of the fallen officer or firefighter.

On Thursday, Mr. Logan, 40, a Democrat, announced he will leave the Legislature on Aug. 24 to accept a newly created position of vice president of community relations for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. UPMC would not disclose his salary.

Within hours of Mr. Logan's surprise announcement, a handful of Mon Valley politicians already were weighing plans to enter the race for the Democratic nomination to replace him. Jim Roddey, the Allegheny County Republican chairman, said that the party wasn't ready to release the names of potential candidates.

1. Interesting - Basically taking over Cong. Altmire's old job
Or at least part of Altmire's old job.
Prior to running for Congress, Altmire was the acting Vice President for Government Relations and Community Health Services. His duties at UPMC included oversight of UPMC’s Office of Charitable Giving. He also represented UPMC in discussions with government officials and local community organizations.

Good timing for Sean. Who knows what the redistricting (likely to be GOP controlled in PA) will do to his Senate district? And nobody would miss that grinding weekly drive on the PA Turnpike from Monroeville to Harrisburg.

Anticipating the musical chairs of political candidacies, I foresee Altmire making a run for US Senate, should Sestak lose (god forbid!), and Sean running for Altmire's congressional seat.

2. Sean's position was "created"...
likely as was Altmire's...

Both know their masters pretty well.

3. Altmire certainly does. . . A corporate shill and bluest of the blue dogs.
Dogs are typically pretty decent, noble creatures. These regressive DINOs should would more aptly be designated as Blue Weasels.

Doubtless, Jason is scrambling to climb aboard the big buck Marcellus Shale bandwagon along with Ridge.
His campaign motto can be "Drill, baby, drill!"
