PA has a new DEP commissioner-clueless Krancer.
The following is from Philly.com Attytood blog regarding Corbett's latest cluster fuck. I am beyond amazed at the depths that Corbett will go.:

"OK, here's something that might even be scarier than the latest report about the dumping of "mystery liquids" in Pennsylvania's water supply. The man that Gov. Tom Corbett is tasking to deal with the problem is utterly clueless.

"Ladies and gentlemen, meet Michael Krancer, your next Pennsylvania environmental protection commissioner:

"In his opening remarks, Krancer emphasized a business-first philosophy of environmental regulation, saying “Responsible, strong, vibrant and growing business is necessary as an engine for the protection of the environment.”

"If anyone had doubts about that", he said, “One need only look to the former Iron Curtain experience and the pollution that is there to prove that a moribund economy is the enemy of environmental protection.”

.....

"Tom Corbett (did I mention that he received $835,720 from the oil-and-gas industry, because I can't mention that enough) has only been governor for five weeks or so. Pray for Pennsylvania."

1. Maybe we can recall Corbett for causing damage to our health
This is only going to get worse.

2. Yes, it will get worse. When the head of the DEP thinks
that environmental protections will only come with economic booms, we are screwed.

This reminds me of a time when I was at one of the environmental citizen comments meetings, and I had to remind them that they were the department of "environmental protection", and asked them to live up to their name and do a little protecting. DEP has been a joke in the best of times. Now, it will be the worst of times.

3. I am afraid PA is in for a long "dark age" of GOP control and plundering
of our state by the business interests that Corbett and his thugs take money from. The GOP controls the legislature and they are even now making the few remaining Democrats in office as powerless as possible.

4. The NY Times reported radioactivity in water below treatment
centers. The DEP came out with a report that they have tested and detected no radioactivity (or only in naturally occurring amounts). Who are we to believe???

You hit the nail on the head about Dark Ages here. Sadly, the damage done in this period will not be easily repaired, if at all. I am just shocked that Corbett won.
