1. People here love Chafee

It's going to be an uphill battle. But I think people are getting sick of him. The newly minted RI rethugs (everyone wants to be on a winning team - asssholes!) hate him because he defies the great leader and the dems hate him because his seat adds to the GOP caucus.

If not for that reason (adding to the caucus) I'd vote for Chafee. Well, that was before he voted for the bankruptcy bill and the tort reform bill and the... ah, never mind *G*. He still votes the way I want about 70% of the time. No to war... no to budget... yes to paygo... no to tax cuts... no to marriage ammendment... Truthfully, he's better than 50% of the Dems-- and that fact sucks!

But seriously... I'm working on Whitehouse's campaign -- have been since before he announced. My brother-in-law is one of his advisors. I think our meme needs to be something along the lines of == 'Even though we like him, we can't afford to vote for Chaffee. A vote for Chaffee is a vote for Bush, Frist, Delay, et al.'

Personally, I'm hoping the GOP runs Laffey against him in a primary. Heh! That could be fun. Though, I am little concerned that the 'bluest of the blue states' has been showing some life in the rethug party lately.

And PS -- we need to get rid of our f*cking scumbag govenor more than we need to get rid of Chaffee.
