WHJJ dumping Air America
Well, I knew it couldn't last. It appears Air America programming will slowly be gotten rid of from WHJJ. They are replacing Springer and part of Franken's show with some woman I've never heard of who used to be on Survivor.

I guess ratings fell 16 percent. You know, you have to give a change like they made time, but instead, they will go back to the same tired old b.s. we've come to expect from Rhode Island talk radio. I'm guessing we'll have the same played out callers back, like Tony from North Providence and Peter Anthony, spreading their Bush-shit as they did before. And then at night, they'll trot out Hannity and Ingraham. What a disgrace.

Congrats, WHJJ........you've just lost another listener.

1. another clear channel station. cc station bailed on AAR here as well
just recently

Progressive 730 AM, Charleston, SC.

Was on the air for only a few months, very weak signal, no promotion, then gone.

Something smells.

2. I posted about this here

I'm not surprised about WHJJ. I was surprised when they picked up the format in the first place. They did well overall with the format, but ratings slid hard from where they were when they were more localized. They were hoping for a quick fix to boost their already decent ratings upward, but it just wasn't happening. I think it just pissed off many of their current listeners. WHJJ is a situation where they took the wrong approach and expected far too much. No way would it be successful that way.

In other words, don't read too much into the WHJJ situation. It was inevitable that they would have dropped the AAR shows.

Hopefully, if there's enough of an outcry, another station in the market will pick it up.

3. I'm really bummed about this.
Most people with whom I've spoken, weren't even aware that it was on the air. They didn't do squat to promote it. People were so used to HJJ being uber conservative, they didn't even consider listening when AAR was on.

I smell a clear channel set up.

4. It's nothing like that
Clear Channel doesn't care about conspiracy theories, or setting up formats to fail. They are in business solely to make money. That's it.

WHJJ bungled AAR, and just expected to open the doors and watch people walk in, so to speak. Sounds to me like they didn't promote well, and instead of attracting listeners, they watched existing listeners walk out the door by not promoting well enough and expecting too much out of the programming. AAR was added initially when a few hosts left WHJJ, and was seen as a quick fix to their dilemma.

As of now, Springer is being replaced, and Franken, Rhodes and Malloy will remain for the next month or so to fill out the station's contract with AAR. Hopefully, another enterprising station in the market will snap up the shows and do them right.
