Democratic fund-raiser in Greenville, SC, last night (8/30): PACKED! |
|
When it was announced last night that there would be another fund-raiser in Greenville in early October, some guy in the back of the near-SRO room yelled, "Get a bigger room!" Amen.
The organizers announced that as of earlier in the day they had over 200 RSVPs to attend. I heard a number of people say they learned about the event too late to RSVP. They just came. The organizers expected around 50 people when they booked the small, upstairs bar at O's.
We met some great Democrats there, young and old. At least 4 units from our downtown condo were represented (20%), and we counted another 3-4 units (not present) that are most likely Democrats. We will have dinner next Monday night with two Democratic couples who are condo neighbors.
I spent from Sunday morning until this morning in Greenville. I was absolutely amazed at the number of Kerry/Edwards bumper-stickers. I saw only three Bu$h bumper-stickers, and all three were the low-keyed W '04 sticker. One was on a shiny new Cadillac Escalation. I think the base is embarrassed to identify publicly with the corrupt, murderous regime of the vapid little Bu$h.

1. Wow, that's amazing for Greenville and the upstate in general! |
|
As a life-long South Carolinian I have always seen Greenville as the center of the ultra-conservative movement in this state, but that's just my opinion. I mean why else would Bob Jones locate his "university" there? Also, that was the congressional district Lindsay Graham (the embarrassment) represented before moving on to the US Senate to embarrass our state further.
Here is something that puzzles me. I have lived for over 40 years in Columbia (Shandon), but I accepted a job in York county six years ago. The vast majority of the people here are ignorantly, sanctimoniously and obnoxiously repuglican, but our congressman, John Spratt, is a Democrat and is consistently re-elected. Spratt also represents Chester and Lancaster counties, but these two counties are rural and do not have large populations. I can't figure out how this is happening. Any ideas?

2. What's the deal on the next event, DemoTex? |
|
Could you send me the details when you're ready? What is the required contribution?
Spartanburg is dead, pretty much, politically. There was the Cheney protest a couple weeks ago, but it was only for an hour on a weekday at noon, and I was delivering work at that time. I did get caught in the bumper-to-bumper traffic, though.

Did you see mine? I was tooling around downtown today, well all week really. I got the only black Kia with "Defend America Defeat Bush" and under it in Sharpie "Again". I work in the BB&T building, im always eating lunch downtown, usually at Jersey Mikes.
