Memphis Lodging Advice Requested |
|
My wife and her sister are going to Memphis for a short getaway. They'll be taking the train down from Chicago and don't plan on renting a car.
Should they stay downtown, or are there any nice places to stay near Overton Square? Is it convenient to get downtown from Overton Square if they don't have a car?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

1. There is a trolley car that runs from the downtown area |

to at least the medical center. (About half way to Overton) There were expansion plans in place, and it has been 6 months since I have been to Memphis so I do not know if the trolley has been extended or not. There is a French Quarter Suites located in the Overton Sq. area that is a nice hotel and very convenient to all the attractions in the Midtown area. Walking distance to the Brooks Museum of Art in Overton Park, theater playhouse and music bars.
In the Medical Center which has the direct transportation of the trolley to downtown and all of the blues bars and downtown significant points of interest (including the Mississippi R. Mud Island Park) there is a Red Roof Inn. Downtown is where the bulk of the nice hotels are located, of course.
Hope she has a nice visit to Memphis.
