How serious is this for a colllege campus? |
|
My oldest is a freshman at MTSU. He called a few minutes ago to let me know that he'd received a text message from the President of the university stating that classes are cancelled effective at noon (CDT) through Oct. 15th. Needless to say the server crashed and I finally accessed the campus police site: police.mtsu.edu/crimealert/index.htm and found the following:
A credible threat to the MTSU campus has been identified. As a result, classes have been cancelled, effective as of noon today, for the remainder of the week.
Due to a series of threatening e-mails and suspicious fires...
It goes on to mention that the campus police are coordinating with local and state law enforcement agencies to investigate. No where is it mentioned that students should remain in their dorms or to get off campus if they have a way to leave.
I'm new to this and trying to remain somewhat calm, but I don't know just how threatening of a situation this is.

1. Well, TN Board of Regents schools are on Fall Break |
|
Oct 13 & 14. That might be what the President was referring to in the text message.
Although MTSU has had a lot of serious incidents of late. Glad my kids decided on another University.
