Robocalls to cell phones could cost lawmaker billions
Agencies' shared jurisdiction may have fed confusion about rules.

U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio, could face a fine that large for making the calls to mobile devices. Smith, whose district extends into Travis County, drew attention last fall when automated calls he paid for started ringing cell phones throughout Central Texas. He said he had hired a company to make about 210,000 calls to constituents' wireless phones with a survey on health care reform and other issues.

There have been no charges of wrongdoing, but according to the Federal Communications Commission, so-called robocalls to mobile devices can bring a fine of up to $11,000 per call.

A fine of that size extends far past the $1.5 million annual budget for Smith's office.

Not knowing the law is no excuse Lamer!

5. I'm sure that's always Lamer's position
Crimes are only crimes for Democrats and rules only apply to Democrats too.

And any time there is ambiguity in the law - the benefit of doubt should always go for the Rs. The Ds should have the book thrown at them.

This a-hole also sits on the judiciary committee where he insists every person/organization that helps Democrats be investigated fully. He's crazy nuts on ACORN right now.

See if this had happened to a Democrat - the rule of law Rs would all be screaming for the full force of the law on the Democrat's ass. But because the guilty are both Republicans and the current administration won't go "tough on crime" on them - they'll both skate.

Funny thing is the law banning the cell phone calls (Do Not Call registry) was passed when Lamer and his party and his favorite President Bushie controlled everything. But no - he was not aware of the rules. Yeah right!

The FTC needs this:

8. I would love to see that guy squirm before the ethics committee
Don't you think the rule of law Congressmen/women should play by the rules?.

And no Lamer there are no gray areas with you. With you it's always black and white. And you are so on the wrong side of this one.

Saddle up cowboy and take your punishment like a real rule of law Republican!

:hi: Melissa! :fistbump:
