1. What a shame
These pictures make it look like it's not entirely destroyed -- I hope they will be able to save the building and rebuild. Lovely old building.

3. the brick facades may be salvagable, but little else
The Terelli's end was less bad, but that is not saying much. Everything is completely caved in in the center of the strip. It is very sad. I feel terrible for all the people out jobs now.

2. This is a major tragedy.

That strip of bar/restaurants had real character so missing in much of Dallas.

I have many fond memories of all those places now gone, especially Terilli's.
Before the fire:

What a shame.

4. So very sad
Houston Chronicle 3/2/10
Fires break out in lower Greenville Avenue area of Dallas

DALLAS — Several fires broke out before dawn in the restaurant-packed lower Greenville Avenue area of Dallas at a time when the places were closed.

The Dallas Morning News reported the fires started around 5:45 a.m. at Terilli's Restuarant and Bar, a Dallas mainstay for more than 20 years. Three other restaurants in the entertainment strip were engulfed within an hour.

Some Lower Greenville residents cried as 72 firefighters -- one of whom suffered smoke inhalation -- fought the fire. No other injuries were reported.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of this very historic area.

6. Is the GABC toast?
That would just royally suck.

I worked on that end of Greenville, back in the day.

7. Yes, it's toast. So are Mick's and Hurricane B&G. However,
from looking at it in person this afternoon and seeing some aerials from channel 8 it looks like all the walls are all still standing. It may be possible to clear out the interiors and rebuild the insides and the second story. But the cost is probably going to be a factor to see if that will happen.

About 10 years or so of my single social life were spent frequenting Terilli's, Micks, and GBG. It wasn't unusual to to see ZZ Top or Gary Busey stopping into Terilli's back in the day (as you say). I remember when GBG was about the only place open on Xmas night where this at the time single guy (who had to work that day) went to meet his other family-less friends.

Even though I haven't been for awhile, this still sucks big time.

I knew GABC GABG from before that guy bought it. I worked at Nick's Uptown, DiPalma and On The Air. Lower Greenville was a hell of a place.

What a shame.
