4. Is it actually landing?
LOL, we worked frantically to get my grandson's jacket zipped and his gloves and hat on so he could go out before it stopped, but none of it was landing. Just sort of dissolved into nothing a few feet above ground.

I do have pictures of the first year we were here (Jan 85) where snow actually landed and sat there from about 4am til about 8am. Long enough to cancel school. You can see the grass sticking up through the snow, which was a kick, coming from the Great Lakes and New England area. (Right now my son lives in Toledo, OH and currently commuting to Pontiac, MI to work, which he still had to do yesterday)

I would have missed it, but I woke up at 4am to sqeals and headlights shining in my windows. Neighbors had pulled their cars in the street and turned them facing their yards, so the kids could go out and play. It melted as soon as it hit the pavement, but it did stay on the grass and bushes for a few hours.

5. It didn't stick here either
But it was sure fun to see. I went to Kroger and everyone was smiling - on their way in and out. There were a few grumpies inside who seemed shocked that the store was so crowded.

Merry Christmas to you and Jim!

8. We had very tiny ice pellets off and on
for about 3 hrs this am here in Galveston. Smaller than pencil-lead size, and they kinda drifted down, so I thought it was going to turn into snow, but it didn't. They melted pretty quickly. My dogs loved snapping at them, LOL.

11. Should Jim drive Mando over that way
in hunt of the elusive Houston snow flake? I can hear little pings on all the skylights but not a thing when I open the door and look out. Just grey and ugly.

I think it's about time to turn on the fireplace and break out the shrimp cocktail and cocktails in general.

There's snow on the roof of my townhome though! Quite a treat. My fire's been going all day, and Mackenzie just left. Definitely cocktail time.

I just left houston on the 21st, It snowed up here in Tennessee (well....mostly ice) right after I arrived.

I was glad because I hadn't seen snow in a while.

17. Ya think? Well, just wait
til the waterlines burst and roads are icy. They'll both be "currently unavailable." Bill will be in a meeting and the roachman will be addressing a fundie group. LOL

18. It has been snowing for a couple of hours now in Corpus
First it was just sleet, but then it started to accumulate. Now everything but the storm drain covers are covered with snow. Quite a bit of it, too. All my kids are excited. This is the most snow I have ever, ever seen here (Out of the 3 times anything wintry has fallen out of the sky! ;) ) Very cool.

20. Well, it's now snowing pretty hard here in Galveston
and I just saw two cars slip-sliding down my street after turning the corener, so I guess I'm house-bound for a while. The last time I saw it like this was 1972, I think.

22. I remember that!
We had just moved to Spring from Indianapolis and thought, this is cool if it snows once a year! I think it was 14 years before it snowed in Houston again! :D

We didn't get any snow in the Austin area but it nevers snows here if they actually predict it!

25. I remember when it snowed in Galveston
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 11:28 AM by ashling
when I was a kid - it must have been 1959 or 1960 I'm not sure (I am getting absent minded in my old age . . . also, I am getting absent minded in my old age)

My dad used a garden rake to rake up all the snow in our yard and the neighbors' yards on both sides of us so we could make a snowman.

21. Wow, still snowing in CC.
It just never happens here. I am afraid to see what my plants will look like in a few days. Interesting, it doesn't look like we are in the right place...

26. Funny you should say that
I am afraid to see what my plants will look like in a few days

When we moved to Washington DC from Houston back in '87 I just had to plant some bluebonnets in front of my townhouse. I planted seed in April, and the started growing in June. I had one or two bloom in the fall and then it snowed. We had snow cover all of December, and after it melted, there was still one bluebonnet blooming.

It was fabulous!

27. That is cool. I am hoping for good things when I un-tent....
but The plants I covered are all together and tropical. All I could do for them was make a big tent out of heavy plastic, which I kept having to go and staple back up. I will just have to wait and see, with my fingers crossed.

24. Christmas Morning in Pearland, and we have 3-4 inches of snow
Still on the ground. It snowed here for over 2 hours last night, some of it very heavy. We lost power for about an hour...somebody hit a pole, and the line had to be re-routed. We're supposed to go to the in-laws today, but my husband says we're not going anywhere until this stuff melts.

I live in Corpus but I am in Albany, NY right now (where we actually have no snow right now and haven't had any since I got here except for a dusting).

29. It covered the ground and stuck for almost 2 days in Texas City!!!
I was at my friend's house in Friendswood on Christmas Eve. By 9pm, there was plenty to make snow angels and have snowball fights, and even some rather pathetic snowmen! We had a blast out in the street lobbing snowballs at the neighbors!

My Mom called me at 7:00 a.m. Christmas morning to tell me they got 3 1/2 inches in the McAllen/Mission area

First time in about 90 years.
