VA repubs using the Rove gay marriage tactic for Nov.

Here we go. Just to make sure they can get all the whacked-out nutty RWers in this state to the polls in November, VA's republicans have intro'd a gay marriage ban/constitutional amendment into the general assembly. Of course, everybody knows that one of our most serious problems in this state is all those pesky gay people parading all over the place trying to get married. Thankfully, at least Tim Kaine has already announced that he sees concern with the language as written, that it could nullify all forms of contracts between folks.

And just when it started to look like VA was going to move out of the 17th century at last.

I went over there and voted for the third option. Of course, you gotta figure, that's the Virginian Pilot (along with Roanoke Times, probably only the two educated and liberal papers in the state). The voters statewide might well be seeing things differently.

The reality is that the crackpot GOP legislators we have in the GA don't give a damn what most of the voters think anyway, they're just ensuring that they'll shore up their standings with their ultra-conservative base.

The gay marriage strategy didn't take hold in time to get it on last year's ballot because in Virginia an amendment has to get GA approval two years straight. Many, many states will have something similar on the ballot this fall. A complete sham
