Why does Tim Kaine hate equal protection?
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 05:17 PM by rqstnnlitnmnt
Have any of you seen this huge story Aravosis posted a few days ago?

http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/01/homophobe-to-give-democratic-response.html

Why is no one talking about this?

edit for qualifier: I don't agree with john's characterization of Kaine as a "homophobe." I think we can get much further talking about this type of civil rights legislation without bringing the degree to which someone is hateful towards gays into the argument. It's about civil rights. Period.

3. it's a gay paper from DC
I almost added another edit about the source.

john from americablog has a problem with them, though i can't find any reference about it (I sort of remember something about the blade publishing some freaky right wing editorials...)

4. Thanks !
We all need to support Kaine right now....with the SOTU response tonight and beyond! Ask your friend how a Kilgore administration may have worked in our state?

2. I agree
Remember, not that long ago, mixed race marriages were illegal in many states!

5. I heard he had nothing to do with it.
I don't know if this is true, but I heard that the gay marriage amendment for lack of a better term was voted on in the solidly Republican General Assembly and will be sent out for a referendum to the voters instead of going to the Governor for radification.

That Kaine finds the constitutionality of such a law questionable,

but will nonetheless sign the measure as written if it is adopted, putting it to a referendum.

No matter what it has to come across his desk in order to become law. Why doesn't he use his power as the executive to overrule it?

I'm not saying he'll accomplish anything because the legislators will override his veto, but at least STAND UP FOR CIVIL RIGHTS.
