...HEAVY SNOW WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 12 PM SATURDAY TO 6 AM EST SUNDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WAKEFIELD HAS ISSUED A HEAVY SNOW WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 12 PM SATURDAY TO 6 AM EST SUNDAY.

LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPING OVER THE GULF COAST STATES TONIGHT...MOVES NORTHEAST TO THE NORTHERN NORTH CAROLINA COAST BY SATURDAY EVENING...THEN TO OFFSHORE OF NEW ENGLAND DURING SUNDAY. AS THIS SYSTEM APPROACHES SATURDAY MORNING...RAIN...POSSIBLY MIXED WITH SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE WARNED AREA BY THE MIDDAY HOURS. THE MIXED PRECIPITATION MAY BECOME ALL RAIN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME SATURDAY AFTERNOON...BEFORE CHANGING TO SNOW BY LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON OR EVENING. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE...POSSIBLY HEAVY AT TIMES...INTO EARLY SUNDAY MORNING...BEFORE TAPERING TO FLURRIES ON SUNDAY.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 5 INCHES ARE EXPECTED BEFORE THE STORM WINDS DOWN SUNDAY MORNING. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS...ESPECIALLY NORTH AND WEST OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND.

A HEAVY SNOW WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

2. We got maybe 1 inch or so...disappointed to say the least, but
then again, winter's not over yet.

3. You guys definitely "dodged the bullet"....LOL
I'll never think of that phrase in the same way again... ever since Bush said that about post-Katrina NOLA.

Glad all is well with the Richmonders. We have the 50/60's the rest of the week here at the beachy end of the state.

Are you old enough to remember the Blizzard of '80, which came March 1st? It absolutely paralyzed Hampton Roads for weeks!

4. It was relatively mild today. I was 10 years old during the blizzard
of 1980. Good times!
