RICHMOND, Va.
-- Virginia Democrats decided Saturday to hold a primary in June to pick their nominee to challenge U.S. Sen. George Allen's bid for a second term.
The state Democratic Party's governing central committee chose a primary over a statewide convention by a voice vote during the party's weekend meeting in Richmond.
Only a handful of committee members dissented to having a primary.
Two Democrats are vying for the Senate seat their party controlled until the Republican Allen defeated Senator Chuck Robb in 2000. Harris Miller, a wealthy technology businessman, and James Webb, a best-selling military suspense novelist who served as President Reagan's Secretary of the Navy, are competing for the nomination. Both are from northern Virginia.http://www.dailypress.com/news/local/virginia/dp-va--brf-democrats-pri0211feb11,0,7950757.story?coll=dp-headlines-virginiaI'm really happy Allen will have to fight for his seat and the distinct possibility that he might lose it. :)
