Today was the annual "Centreville Day", Centreville basically being the "heart" of western Fairfax County. Usually heavily Republican, attributed in large part to the "church" vote. Some are pretty extreme out here in their messaging and the Republicans that get elected out here really reflect that.
Anyhow, we (the Dems) have been trying to put in solid appearances over the last few years and this year, we matched the Republicans "mano a mano" in the parade today!!!! It was terrific. I think they were in shock. I'd say we easily had 150 people show up to march for John Kerry.
At the fair, our booth not only had prime real estate, but we had a classy, well-organized booth. Two big tents, one table with lit, buttons, etc, the other table for folks to get voter reg info, volunteer, etc.
We had 75 people sign our volunteer forms and we had non-stop traffic of folks wanting Kerry stuff. It was great! The republicans had a better showing this year (because we outshone them last year too with our booth) but not anywhere near as good as ours. We had it all, flags, red white and blue buntings, campaign signs and a 6 foot cut-out of John Kerry right out front!!! I think we sold all of our shirts too.
Anyhow, we were all so thrilled with the turnout and the response, it was very encouraging, especially in this area. It's been a long, hard road, let me tell you.
