I'm just curious not being from Virginia how the new voter registration efforts are going in Virginia. If there are any widescale problems (e.g., not being able to get registration forms).

1. The shortage appears to be in Northern Virginia, which is good..
as it is trending Blue, and went for Kerry in 2004, so I would infer that mostly these are Democrats. Hopefully they can get everybody registered before the deadline though.

2. Not sure that I understand your logic. Seems it would be better if the shortage were in the South
which trends red. We obviously want to register where we get the most blue which, as you say, is the north.

3. They ran out because of an unanticipated demand?
that's the way I took it, that they are registering more people than usual.

4. Several things may e contributing to this
1. There seems to be an Obama campaign office in every major city. For example, in the Hampton Roads/Tidewater region (southeast Virginia), there is an Obama headquarters in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, etc. (Rather than one office to serve the area as is typical). Each office has a tremendous voter registration effort. In addition to this, the DNC and such groups as MoveOn also have huge voter registration efforts going on.

2. We recently changed the form so that those participating in GOTV efforts must leave a slip with each new voter registered with the GOTV volunteer's name, etc. I think that this is to help reduce or circumvent what occurred in many states in 2004 when people hired by he Republican Party registered voters and tossed the registration forms of Democrats in the trash.

We have been registering people like mad in Virginia for months now!
