How's things in Sequim these days? |
|
About 20 years ago, after traveling through BC I crossed the strait on the ferry from Victoria back to the peninsula. Myself and a friend had been camping in a tent and we were getting steadily rained on throughout the trip for a week and a half. BC was great but when we hit Sequim we were finally able to dry out a bit. We stayed at a campground, as I try to remember, somewhere near the strait. I remember doing some beach combing and there being tons of driftwood, some we brought back for a fire. We got our gear sorted out and planned the next leg of the journey, which basically was to explore Seattle a bit. The morning we headed out we drove an hour, maybe more, and it clouded up and soon began to rain. We'd had enough, took one look at each other and did a u-turn back to the rain-shadow. We ended up spending another three wonderful days in the Sequim area.
I've traveled a lot and moved around most of my life, but sometimes, at least for me, there are those distant places and times that are remembered in a way that can make you think I should have just stayed there and looked no more. Sequim, right or wrong, is that kind of place for me.
So, if you'll pardon my indulgence, how are things in Sequim these days?

1. You would be wise to cherish the memory |

Sequim has it own major interchange on a six lane freeway and has been overwhelmed by the usual commercial welter of national chain stores. It's a popular retirement destination, so there's been a lot of development. I remember it the way it was 30 years ago. I don't much care for the changes, but obviously many people still find the area attractive, because it's still growing.
