Seeking info on health insurance providers in King Co. Any advice?
A friend has the choice between 3 companies. The choices are Molina, Group Health, and Community Health Plan. I've had CHP where I live, but am seeking any input from people who have had doings with Molina or Group Health. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

1. Group Health here.
The Northgate office is convenient for me but I get sent to the hospital on Capital Hill for any tests. Kind of a pain because the parking is bad. Even though I order online, their pharmacy is huge. I've never had a problem with anything, except my primary care physician. I've switched but haven't seen the new one yet.

2. Thanks Suich. I've heard both good and bad about GH.
I am finding CHP is at smaller clinics, but still not in many places (transportation issue). Thanks for the reply.

3. I have Group Health as well
Been with them for 20 years. I've been in their Intensive Care, in their ER's and had my daughter at the Eastside Hospital. I have had some bad moments with them. Don't ever get me started on that nurse in the Maternity unit after my C section. There are great providers and some not so great. If you don't like who you are seeing it's easy to switch. I go to the Northshore office and love it. Love my Doctor but I had to go through a few to find her. No different than any where else. For the most part I'm very content with the services I receive from them. I do pay privately through our union...It's just as expensive as any other plan which is confusing as I thought that their co-op concept was intended to contain cost.

5. Very bad on group health

Administration will do or try anything to get out of treating in severe cases such as chronic pain. In the areas of chronic pain these days Group Health has one specialist who heads up the entire chronic pain program and is a bureaucrat,or whore to the bureaucrats. Currently Group health assigns chronic pain patients to staff general practitioners ,and with little experience. Budget cuts with the current economic situation are driving up co payments for visits and meds. into the sky.

You should research group health legal battles before you even think about group health. Assigning chronic pain patients to general practitioners is the same as offering no treatment.

No to group health. It is awful. It is fine for the occasional visit just so long as your treatment is said and done. But long term care is terrible. You really must contact people that know the bureaucratic ropes about that group health. And you really must understand the full details in the contract about who pays for what. Total thumbs down group health.

Group health's lawyers are there to help the administration bureaucrats get out of treating people.

The experiences of people that got shafted and are being shafted is what you really must know ,there lies the truth.

I don't think it has changed in twenty years. Group Health does indeed have a very dark side. Group health is one of the options Federal employees have and between the dark side of the fed and group health , it can get very bad. Group health is a business and is run like one. My brother in law is a hospital administrator. Not with group health but in NYC.Did some over seas work too. Thumbs down group health if you ever really need serious care.Long term type or expensive operations. ,like life saving kind.

The scumbags are cutting way back on outside of group health care, that's where group health has no one in staff qualified to treat so their agreement is ,in their plan ,under those circumstances they will send you elsewhere and cover the cost. Those scumbag bureaucrats will use every legal loop hole and some more to wiggle out of it.

If you don't know the law and have connections to the right people in places, you become pray to those bureaucratic predators at group health. That's it in nut shell.

I can go on and on sighting for instances , however if you have group health as a health care provider ,I really wouldn't want to scare the be jesus out of you.

They are bad.Terrible and scumbags in levels on high.

7. I've had very good experiences with Group Health
Husband successfully manages problems resulting from Graves Disease with the help of an excellent endocrinologist.

9. Thank you for your answer. I have another question for you then.
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 10:26 PM by uppityperson
I am curious about his treatment as I have Graves also. I got nuked, was put on synthetic thyroid replacement and had issues with binders for about 2 yrs before going on natural. Now Armour is changing things in their lab and natural is difficult to find for a bit. I have CHP and was referred to UW endocrinologist whom very much underwhelmed me, as did the UWmed system.

Edited to add the question, can you share what they are doing to work with him? Generalities are fine, what with this being publicish and all. Thanks.

10. First he was on thyroid inhibitor
Sometimes that is a permanent fix after tapering off, which didn't work in his case. Then they nuked the thyroid. He has had cardioreversion a couple of times because of the irregular heartbeat often associated with Graves. Now he is on synthetic, plus blood thinners and some other stuff. He goes in regularly for blood testing and they keep adjusting dosages. He feels pretty good most of the time.
