1. Who do I call, basically?
I'm in a feisty mood this morning and I don't feel like putting up with crap like this.

BTW, the linked thread is locked and I couldn't respond to it.

2. OK, I just emailed them. They won't take comments by phone.
Their email address is supreme@courts.wa.gov

My email is titled: Today I am ashamed to live in Washington State.

I just spoke to the clerk of your court, who told me that she cannot take comments by phone and that I need to email my thoughts on your recent wrong and hate-filled ruling on gay marriage. For the record, I do not think it is right that a STATE agency requires people to have email in order to comment on public policy. It is setting up a technological divide that marginalizes many citizens.

That aside, I am extremely disturbed by the ruling you just made regarding marriage. If marriage is to be a civil right, it should be available to all citizens. Legal marriage confers rights and privileges that should be available to everyone who chooses it.

Washington state has a proud history of access and rights. It was built by labor, by immigrants, and founded as a place where justice should prevail.

I cannot believe that you have ruled today in a way that subverts and dishonors this history. I am very sorry that you have turned the state where I live into a bastion of hate. I heartily hope that one day the five of you who hate your fellow citizens come to find a path that leads to love rather than prejudice and bigotry. For the four of you who ruled correctly, I applaud your faith and bravery.

8. Your emails were nicer than mine
I am thoroughly repulsed by this decision and shocked at Alexander. I emailed his campaign.

I am running out of adjectives to describe my feelings when these bigots deny equal rights and protection for all...effng enough!

Great letter LisaM.

(I know the thread moved, I just needed to vent in Washington.)

3. I hope you can maintain that feisty mood
First off, there are a number of long-planned demonstration; see here.

Second, a small group of people are planning something that will, we hope, blow up the rightards with their own "marriage is for procreation" bomb. Once we get our ducks lined up, we will be making an announcement.

4. I can't go to the events today
but it looks like there is a gathering, and then a service at the First Baptist Church on Capitol Hill; go there if you can.

5. Washington is officially in DE-progress mode
NO gay marriage, NO mass transit options in large cities, NO Sonics/Storm, CLOSE schools Why dont we just close up shop. Im really disappointed by this ruling. All I can think of is that crazy guy that was on local news a couple months back preaching his venom about gay marriage...he eventually showed up in a Darth Vadar costume..anyone remember that creep? I am sure he is doing a happy dance in his star wars outfit. We need more Jedis like him to keep us safe.

6. I'm now compiling my letter to the Archbishop of Seattle
I'd like to think that it's all the last gasp of the old conservative white men, but I've been thinking that since 2000 and the old guy has way more breath left than I thought.

7. Damn! Why must people have such closed minds?
Can someone please explain to me how/why gay marriage is such a threat? How/why it would lead to the downfall of society? Nevermind -- there IS no explanation except for close-mindedness and bigotry and hatred and fear. So instead of being open and accepting, the Supreme Court just made a legal decision that this state is to remain officially close-minded.

9. I'm disappointed by this
and I happen to personally believe DOMA is unconstitutional, but I do think deferring this to the legislature is probably the right decision.

Two steps forward and one step back is frustrating, but it is still progress. Marriage equality is coming; there's a backlash right now, and we can't relax, but it is going to happen, no matter how much the knuckle-draggers want to bring back the Dark Ages.
