Bring out you couch, bring out your couch, bring out your couch!
Two weeks till the next "Friends Of Skoal Bowl." I'm a hard core Mountaineer fan, so I'll be pulling for the Old Gold and Blue. #3 in the country ain't bad! I think the Mountaineers have the talent to back up the number three rating this year. This might be the year the WV fans have been waiting for, for so damned long...the year that we won't need to wait till next year.

Let's Goooooooo Mountaineers!1!1!!1!1!11!!11!

1. It's that time of year again....
There are a few trees thinking about changing color in the high hills on I-79. And the construction is finishing up, just in time for that first Saturday morning stampede over Labor Day. I am seriously psyched for this year, and seriously terrified that they will break my heart again.

I've seen a lot of amazing WVU games. I've seen Syracuse in a blizzard. I've seen 1-AA MAC opponents in the blazing summer sun. I've hidden under the stadium during a lightening storm when Cincinnati played us at Homecoming. I was in Mountaineer Stadium when we finally beat Joe Paterno. And I was at that astonishing triple-overtime win against Louisville that introduced the world to Pat White and Steve Slaton. And I hope and pray that this year will be even better. And I'm still terrified that they will break my heart again.

Sock 'em
Bust 'em
That's our custom
West By God Virginia!

2. Think positive!
They...Could...Go...All...The...WAY!

I have a good feeling about this year. Better than usual!

I'll never forget sitting in the endzone at a WV Syracuse game on my birthday one year and watching Willy Drury run back a 97 yard Syracuse punt for a td. I'll never forget how much fun Major Harris was to watch. Or Jake the Snake, or Ollie Luck, or the Hoss, or Famous Amos, or AB Brown, James Jett, or or or or! WV may not win every game, but they usually put on a great show live...and the partying ain't half bad either.

3. Great video of 25 years of Mountaineer Stadium
Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOWbl91JgGs -- so many great players, so many great plays. I think I saw Doug Flutie getting clotheslined. Ah, good times. It reminds me of how much I miss Jack Fleming, too.

I love the thrill of being there in person, but I never had much of a chance to do any pre-game partying. I was in The Mountaineer Marching Band, and I still march with the Alumni Band at Homecoming. We were/are supposed to be sober until after the game -- old habits die hard!

5. Great Video! Thanks
Have never been to the"new" stadium.Unless you call spending over 4 years of playing golf @ the old Morgantown Country Club which is where the stadium was built.

6. Highlights of the Western Michigan game
Slayton and White were superb, and our defensive secondary has improved. This could be the year.

7. Last weeks game showed me something else that's very positive...
Something that the Mountaineers never really had enough of before. The developing depth at the skilled positions is awesome. Another ingredient that is vital to a contender for a national title. It's all falling into place...they really could..."GO ALL THE WAY!" The B teams were great...O and D! I LOVED the 4th quarter last week!

I kind of feel sorry for the Herd!

Herd 13 * WVU 6 ?

Who'd have thunk it? No more feeling sorry for the Herd...they came to win!

9. I won't be burning my couch.
I need it to lay on when I get the therapy I'll be needing from now on, after that heart stopper. What a game! I kept thinking about the Appalachian State - Michigan upset last week. Marshall played very well, you gotta give them lots of credit. And it looked to me like Manchin could probably make a living as a sportscaster.

WVU just didn't want to go to their passing game, although they have a pretty good one IMO and the Herd defense left that wide open. Rodriguez is very good at making halftime adjustments. The most obvious thing to the casual observer in the 2nd half was that the running game suddenly started working. Here's the biggest reason why:

Schmitt moved back to fullback from tight end, Michael Villagrana took over at tight end, and West Virginia quit running those slow-developing sweeps and sideline plays. They ran isolation and zone plays with Schmitt and Villagrana replacing receivers as blockers. It worked. Slaton's longest gain of the first half suddenly became his shortest gain of the second: 3 yards.

Just four more days and we play the Turtles at Maryland. They'll be looking for revenge after that drubbing we gave them last year.

National championship, one step at a time!

10. I thought Marshall played a great game on both sides of the ball.
I wonder where they got such a great defense, all of a sudden?(Steve Dunlap)

http://herdzone.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/dunlap_steve00.html

The dumbest move WVU ever made, was to EVER cut this guy loose.

Look for the Herd defense to do nothing but improve, for the rest of this season and for sure in the seasons to come, as Dunlap goes about bringing in and tweaking the talent he needs to create a green monster in the River City. WVU might not always have it made in the shade, in this new series of in-state games that governor Joey the Goober has cooked up, almost single handedly.(or at least he takes about all the credit, for the friends of Skoal Bowl, along with anything else positive in the state)

Joe Blo is truly a legend in his own mind. Almost as camera shy and humble as the pResident.

11. We got bumped down from #3 to #4 in the AP Top 25
Obviously due to the first half struggle against the Herd.

12. I was afraid of that!
Damn...that SUCKS! Maybe that will light a fire under the Mountaineer's butts! Thursday night will be another night to sip the heartburn medies too...I'm getting to damned old to wait for too many more next years! These Rollude chomping cliffhangers are tough on an old coot like myself. I almost caught myself rooting for the Herd a couple of times Saturday...I guess I'm getting senile too!

13. No big tragedy though.
I doubt if we'll get back above #4 until we whup Rutgers and Louisville, and even then we might not make it. South Florida is dangerous but beating them won't move us up unless they manage to get themselves ranked before we play.

The Turtles game is on ESPN high definition, and also plain ol' ESPN for the viewing-disadvantaged, at 7:30 Thursday. The Turtles and their refrigerator will be out for revenge after last year's drubbing but they won't get it. WVU, 56 - 21.

Let's gooooo, ......:applause:

14. I think the turddles will be out for blood too and I'll see it on HDTV
like a refined fan should. It helps when you want to keep a close eyeball on the guys in black and white stripes. The Zebras, or the 13th, 14th, and 15th, 16th, 17th and so on, players on the field, have a bad habit of being on the other team's side when WVU takes any given field of play, if you catch my drift. The Big East Zebras seem to be even more hostile toward WV, than the evil assed out of conference verities.

19. I miss Morgantown this time of year
I did watch the Twerp game on ESPN

very impressed with the team especially with Devine

all I could think was DAMN!

I believe that we will go undefeated

the Marshall game showed that we have to want it more than the other team and I think that RRod has instilled that in his players

20. WVU vs. East Carolina on ESPN2 at noon this Saturday (9/22/07)
I hope we'll sink the Pirates early on, what with the Mountaineer defense hitting on all (or most) cylinders now, and with Devine coming on board to augment the already-awesome WVU offense.

East Carolina has struggled so far (1-2) but we would be fools to count them out. Their defense has in the past been effective against the WVU spread offense, and quarterback Patrick Pinkney is a threat at both passing and running.

Friday is the biggie of the year IMHO! If the eers win this week against the Bulls, they could go all the way. The 4-0 Bearcats might derail them though.
