Did you give up hope? Do you think we don't have a chance? Well think again! Spot for the Mountaineers in the national championship game is almost assured. Check out what CBS Sports has to say:
Bowl PredictionWith Oregon losing to Arizona and Oklahoma losing to Texas Tech, it opens to door for a handful of teams -- Missouri, Kansas, West Virginia and even Ohio State. We predict Missouri will defeat Kansas and then lose to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship, allowing West Virginia to earn the No. 2 spot in the BCS. LSU is ranked No. 1 in the BCS and only has to beat Arkansas and then either Tennessee or Georgia in the SEC title game to play for the national title. West Virginia played for the national title in 1988, losing to Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.
http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions The Missouri/Kansas game this Saturday will be very close but we don't care. Neither Missouri nor Kansas will survive the Big 12 championship game, which means a defeat for two of the three teams currently ranked above us in the
BCS poll. Which means we'll be ranked #3 after this week and #2 after the following week. That will get us into the playoff game with LSU.
But all this depends on winning our last two games. Will we? Even in this year of upsets it would be very unlikely for WVU to lose either of these games. The toughest one will be this Saturday at 3:30 PM. Check out the College Football News prediction:
Connecticut (9-2) at West Virginia (9-1)3:30 EST, ABCConnecticut has been a great story, but the clock is about to strike 12 on the Huskies. There’s no way this upstart program is leaving Milan Puskar Stadium with the Big East title that West Virginia feels belongs to them. The Mountaineers will shut down the Husky attack, while getting another MVP-type performance on offense from White.
CFN Prediction: West Virginia 34 … Connecticut 13
http://cfn.scout.com/2/650801.html Team Rankings says there is a 79.8% probability that we will defeat UConn. But what about the Backyard Brawl in Morgantown the following week? Pittsburgh has a 6.9% chance of winning that one.
And while the championship game would be no cakewalk, LSU's defense has struggled this year against multi-talented quarterbacks like Pat White. It has been two long decades since we played in a national championship game. Our quarterback, Major Harris, separated his shoulder on the third play and we were dead meat from then on.
Maybe this year our first national championship title will be ours at last.
